I think this was late 80s-early 90s to look at the effects and fashion. The plot is that a talking suit of Powered Armor arrives on earth and somehow ends up being worn by a preteen boy: Basically the armor suit needs a living pilot to complete its mission of defeating an invading enemy, so now that the main character is inside the suit, it's programmed not to let him leave until he's fought the antagonist. One scene I remember had the boy point out the loophole in said programming and actually convinced the suit to let him go (naturally it's just a 10-Minute Retirement): He actually does fight the Big Bad halfway through the movie and ends up retreating after it's clear he's outmatched... but the rule just said he had to engage with the enemy, not win. I also vaguely remember there being some kind of mild Toilet Humor about what the boy would do if he had to pee while stuck in the suit.
