Seems like CC may have a problem with serial tweaking in general, such as here and here.

By definition, you can't Edit War with yourself. We define Serial Tweaker though. It doesn't break a rule, but it does raise an eyebrow that a troper can't get their example right after several tries, especially for a troper who has been editing since 2018.

"Scottish (and Northern European in general) lore" -> "Scottish lore" -> "Northern European lore" -> "Northwestern European lore" -> "Northern European lore" -> "Northwestern European lore"

It seems we don't have a serial tweaking notifier. Does a makeshift one need to be sent, or should they be brought here?

Northwestern Europe is a weird geographical term to use here, looking it up, selkies are strictly Scottish mythology, with counterparts in Iceland and Faroe islands. I'm going to change it back to that and notify them to leave it be.

His serial tweaking, in my opinion, hasn't put out a better product. "Northwestern European" (say that five times fast) is an awkward term, and doesn't describe a place or shared cultural region, anyway. "Scottish" is probably the most parsimonious and accurate description here.

I admit I understand it though, I also change my own entries in posts once in a while because I get insecure and think it could be better.

oh hey how are you doing?

Usually when I serial tweak, it's in rapid succession because I hit "submit" without previewing and realised I made a typo.

The reason I serial tweak is because I can't decide whether the British Isles are part of Northern or Western Europe, and end up flip-flopping between them. The List of World Heritage Sites in Western Europe says they are culturally part of that region, their languages aren't included in the languages of Northern Europe, and there are some people who got on my case for listing it as part of Northern Europe, but most other definitions of Northern Europe say they are part of that region instead. This doesn't happen with any other continent, because the rest all have clearly defined regions that the List of World Heritage Sites follow and don't contradict like they do with the British Isles.

I don't know who was getting on your case, but from an outside perspective, this experience shows that, technically, for a certain period of time the information added was incorrect, and the editor wasn't even sure it was correct.

I recommend figuring stuff like that out before writing, Ask The Tropers can be a good place if you can't find a specific forum, and link the community answer in edit reasons. That way, the information added would be considered correct at maximum on the second try.

Anyway, the wording has been changed to "Compare ... Selkies and Wereseals for another deadly aquatic shapeshifter from Scottish lore", is that acceptable, or you find it inaccurate?

For the time being until we reach a consensus on which region the British Isles are part of, yes.

Edit: Consensus is they are part of Western Europe, so Scottish will remain the term.
