IMO, most of these do come off at wishful thinking.

They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot suffers from this a lot - how much of the trope is "I wanted to see this" and how much is an alternate plot that would have legit made the film better (especially egregious for a film like this, which is already well liked). I feel like this is a trope that should be looked into. It is still a decent idea, but a trope? Not too sure about that. At the very least, I think it can be Just for Fun

I feel like you're taking this trope as an attack on the quality of the works rather than audience reactions, and IMO, the fact that a film as long as this still has plotlines that could be explored is a testament to how viewers are invested into this universe and would have liked its narratives to be more deeply explored.

I'm with magnumtropus and have been for years. I don't think it's necessarily an attack (though the title certainly doesn't help), but the "trope" as it currently exists - and They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character too - is essentially just a hosting place for people's fanfic ideas in its current state. Literally any troper can pick literally any thing they'd personally like to have seen more of and make up an example for it.

Ok that's cool and all, but I'm not asking to start a trope talk, I'm just asking for my specific situation here. Anyone can provide feedback?

All four of those are pretty weak examples of a trope that is, as mentioned here and evne on the description itself, open for misuse.

The first two are after the fact, so they don't count. "The Riddler says this, so earlier scenes should have been changed" isn't even how the trope is supposed to work. And making the innocent victim Batman saves early in the movie a criminal later on isn't even remotely suggested, it's just "This troper personally thinks this is a good idea."

The Bruce doing more philanthropy work is basically the only one that counts, though it may yet materialize in future movies.

The Batman/Selina stuff should also get cut because it is not hinted at all that Bruce is considering telling her. It's just a thing people want to happen, but this trope is supposed to be for things that were set up and not followed up on. Selina mentioning Bruce's name isn't enough for that to count as set-up. You could just as easily say Batman should reveal he's Bruce to Carmine to show the Wayne family resists him in the present or Bruce should reveal himself to Gordon because Gordon is disillusioned with how many of his colleagues are dirty.

So yeah, cut away and leave the "Bruce's philanthropy" idea if you must.

You've gotten four responses to your specific situation, and all of them agree with the cut. Consensus is against you.

^The first two responses were arguing for something completely different. Cut it out with the condescending behavior.

Not really? Magnum's first sentence says that they think the examples are "wishful thinking", and then they went onto explain that the trope is commonly misused, which is important context here, since your argument hinges on the misused version of the trope.

I have to agree with the other five voices here, those are not good examples. They read more like "I wanted the movie to be done this way" than examples of They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot.

Others have brought up the rampant misuse because examples like these are exactly the kind of misuse that is watering down the trope (also it's really not well defined either, which is half the problem).

^^ You will notice I didn't contend any of the latter posts, which is because I have accepted their reasoning. I just disliked crazysamaritan's tone, which was heavily condescending despite the fact that I hadn't replied to the two latter posts. Anyway, we can move on and whoever wants to start a trope discussion on the trope at hand is free to do so.

My "tone" was due to the fact that your responses to both of them addressed the person and dismissed their points: "you're taking this trope as an attack on the quality of the works" and "Ok that's cool and all,"

They are not "arguing for something completely different". They were explaining a common type of misuse for the trope that you're asking about, and identified the examples as falling into that category. Turning discussion to a person is thump-able, but I can't thump query posts due to technical limitations.
