It looks like it was an incomplete move that Gate Star X abandoned. I assume the goal was to prevent subpage collision between the different Aladdin works

Yes, the fact that Franchise.Alladin refers specifically to the Disney movies despite sharing subpages with the original tale is a problem, but the sheer number of wicks makes it a herculean task.

Wasn't there also another animated version of Aladdin released around the same time as the Disney, but everyone basically ignored it?

Yes, that one! Although that answers my question as to whether or not the two had been confused and that's why there were two pages; no they had not, as the Golden one is disambiguated. (I think.)
