Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
It could be reworked as an index of works with pages on the site, not just "notable" ones.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe. We could go through Fanfic/ namespace and add any pages that link to wattpad, it's just not going to be a one day job.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupI think that it (and SpaceBattles.com et cetera) should have these lists removed, because "this fanfic happened to be published on such-and-such site" isn't worthy of indexing.
2025: the year it all ends?Eh, I think it's fine for categorization purposes. To me, it's the equivalent of indexes of TV shows on Creator/ pages for TV channels.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe. My two cents: it’s a nice idea to compile an index of all the Wattpad fanfics that have TV Tropes works pages — but that’s going to be a huge project involving a ton of research to do right, given that it’s one of the three largest fanfic repositories out there. It makes sense to leave it as is if someone’s going to do the legwork to flesh it out completely, otherwise I’m thinking it can be cut.
Website.Alternate History Dot Com has a giant index of works, what to do with that?
Fanfic/ namespace contains 10124 articles. While a lot of work, all is needed is to hover over the link on pages. It would require a Short-Term thread though, but it doesn't require to be done urgently. (I'm not strong about this if it's ineed too much)
Edited by Amonimus TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupWorth noting that Archive of Our Own used to have a list like that before it was removed by this ATT
back in 2019.
Nobody, either include them all or neither. To which I now lean to just cutting both lists.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupI'd like to request a temporary hold on cutting the AlternateHistory.com ones, as I was planning to go through them to clean them and check if they are accessible or not.
Alternatively, we all clean them up and then cut the list out.
"Grandmaster Combat, son!"^That would be an entirely different index, which might actually be useful i.e. "published works that got their start as fan fictions." That would also not be wattpad exclusive and would cover any fanfic. Although, now that I write it out, that is probably a better Trivia trope than an index.
In any case, I agree that we shouldn't have indices of "notable fanfic works" because who/what determines notability is not our call. I also agree that given the propensity of crossposting fanfics, it makes little sense to have lists of fanfics on the hosting site pages. If AO 3 had their list cut, it makes more sense to treat them all the same and cut the other lists too.
Folks, here's the deal, and this is an official policy statement.
Websites that solely act as hosting or distribution platforms for media do not get TV Tropes articles and do not act as work indexes. This is because those websites are neither the authors nor the publishers of the works in question. It would be like listing my WordPress blog as being authored by WordPress. That's just not true.
We have a cleanup thread
specifically for this sort of thing.
Made a post in the cleanup thread mentioned above ^x6. Also brought up FanFiction.Net for similar problems.

I just noticed that the Wattpad has a section of "List of well-known Wattpad stories" which includes as you would expect a list of supposedly well-known stories. Doesn't this inclusion violate There Is No Such Thing as Notability and it would also be completely up to the person adding it if it's notable enough to get it? Having this doesn't seem like a great idea and I am pretty sure that we have removed stuff like this before.
