"Not actually being racist" doesn't disqualify something from having Unfortunate Implications; if anything, it makes it count even more because that proves that the implications really are unfortunate, as opposed to intentional.
The article is very interesting, and does raise valid points from a diversity and equity viewpoint. But it overlooks the Critical Role Foundation, which uses profits from merchandise sales and donations to specific projects for the improvement of educational institutions in countries which need them.
I understand the point the author was making, and can see the controversy the 3rd season opener sparked (I didn't understand the 20th century outfits, either). But to mention the cast's wealth without also mentioning their charitable works isn't balanced.
^None of that is relevant to what counts or doesn't count as Unfortunate Implications, and as it is not relevant, mentioning it under the same entry would only be nattering or perhaps a justifying edit.
My musician pageThe bit about their charity work is completely unrelated to whether or not one of their works comes across racist. If someone steps on my foot and I complain, and a third party insists that I also mention the time they bought me lunch for "balance", I would be very annoyed.
An Unfortunate Implications entry isn't a place to judge someone's heart against a feather.
Edited by EiryuHuh? Who's getting "defensive"? Mostly it's people just discussing the example's quality.

So, there was this edit on the main UI page regarding one of Critical Role's recent campaigns: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=Main.UnfortunateImplications#edit32437068
The person making the edit claims that the poster is the only one who has this complaint, but there's a whole ass Kotaku article about it: https://kotaku.com/critical-role-marquet-third-campaign-asian-cultures-col-1848500055
I don't know if it still falls under UI since CR isn't actually racist or anything (I personally don't see any issue with their campaign), but there was a legitimate controversy. CR themselves actually had to issue a statement. Maybe rewording it to make it more neutral or simply transferring it to the work itself under Broken Base?
