Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
You can send a crosswicking notifier. That's what I do.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallYes, if you see sponsors not crosswicking their drafts, you should notify them.
I rather not have people dump new tropes Pages Needing Wicks just because they are too lazy to crosswick or don't have the time to. I rather them ask others for help first
Macron's notesGo to the history page for a work or trope or whatever, scroll down to the user whose edit you want to call attention to, click "send a message", then choose the "crosswick" reason in this case.
Trust me, I'm an engineer!honestly, if a trope doesn't get crosswicked by the draft launcher after a set amount of time after notifiers get sent, i feel like we should just send it back to the TLP. there are many users who pump out (valid) drafts in the tlp/will have no less than 4 drafts going at any given time and will not properly crosswick them. It feels like an unloading of responsibility, tbh. Creating and launching a draft is fun; it feels good to know you've contributed to the site. Crosswicking is not fun and often thankless work. If someone doesn't want to do the work that comes with launching a draft, then they shouldn't be able to launch that draft imo.
May seem harsh, but as of now, there isn't really a disincentive to just pumping and dumping. Notifiers (in small enough numbers) can be ignored and afaik, "not crosswicking" isn't a bannable offense/doesn't get one's TLP privileges revoked. There needs to be some kind of tangible repercussion in place to curb the behavior if we want to see less of it.
Edited by amathieu13It's in the TLP Guidelines, "Crosswick Your Trope Page".
I don't think sending TLP back is a good idea since they are community efforts and crosswicking is also a free action. But it's a good idea to check the new launches and if it doesn't look like the launcher is bothering to wrap up the work they should be given a boot to the head a reminder to go do that. While crosswicking isn't bannable, ignoring notifiers is and can send the troper to a chat room if anything else also shows up.
TLP drafts are only sorta community efforts, that's why sponsors exist, no? they're the ones responsible for the nitty-gritty of their draft: basic idea, writing, editing, incorporating feedback, properly formatting. While drafts are a group effort from a concept standpoint, from a labor standpoint, it falls mostly on the sponsor, as it should, otherwise we're bound to have a collective action problem on our hands where corrections and other relevant things don't get done because everyone wants to free-ride/pray someone else handles the hard part.
If notifiers alone would work I'd agree with you, but sending notifiers is how we currently do things and the issue still persists, quite a bit.
Edited by amathieu13Actually, at least one troper has been suspended for it.
If someone refuses to do it after being told multiple times, you can absolutely report it.
And, I agree that crosswicking is a job for the sponsor primarily. Launching is a whole process and responsibility- stealth launching isn't the only reason people are encouraged to wait.
Edited by WarJay77 Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper Wallseeing as I sent 6 messages to users this morning who didn't crosswick their recently launched drafts (out of a random selection of 8), I think we can safely say this is a wider issue that should be dealt with. I really do think there needs to be something preventive rather than just reactive seeing as we'll only know if someone checks.
(Also Poisoned Drink Drop was one of the notifiers I sent. Since that was a trope that Myles pointed out in their initial post, it's probs time that the launcher of that one ~hodges14 should get called in)
Hodges 14 has been TLP suspended for not crosswicking their launches despite multiple notifiers.
I think it's best to make separate queries for users who haven't crosswicked any of their launches despite multiple notifiers/pings
Also, further talk about how crosswicking should be enforced should probably be moved to the forums
Macron's notes^ that's what it's often used for, and it just occurred that I may've delayed the query from being locked.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupI think people have done that multiple times on that thread so it's fine.
Locking this as resolved

I can come up with a number of tropes that get launched from the TLP and don’t get crosswicked for a while, such as Single-Season Country, Poisoned Drink Drop, and many more. If nothing is done to these pages for a period of time, they’ll eventually fade to dust.
As someone who takes the time to crosswick pages after I launch them, I think it’s really annoying and unfair to people like me who put in the extra work to make sure the page is just like any others.
I didn’t go to the Projects: Short Term forum and start a cleanup thread because I don’t know if this is a big enough problem to warrant one. I think we should always PM the launcher and ask them to crosswick their page, and after so many warnings, action gets taken.
Is anyone else annoyed by this? I think, at the very least, you should be required to add the trope to Pages Needing Wicks if you’re not going to bother to crosswick them yourself.
