Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.

Let me get this right...
- your first edit on this
- Goukenimaru removes (notice the edit reason)
- you've readded with some adjustments
- Goukenimaru removes (notice the edit reason)
- you've readded
- Goukenimaru removes
- you've readded
- Goukenimaru removes
- you've readded
This is the correct sequence of events (but I made two more additional edits to tell Goukenimaru to come here by elaborating on the issue and fixing a type). According to the first edit, Goukenimaru states that Gichii is Giyu's biological descendant and he can't be adopted. Gichii is too young to be adopted by Giyu, this is true. However, I am not saying Giyu adopted Gichii. Only that Giyu could've adopted an heir who eventually had their own kids/descendants that eventually led to Gichii. As per my explanation above, Giyu did not necessarily have descendants the biological way and that was Goukenimaru's justification, which is not entirely correct.
In hindsight, I understand that Goukenimaru may not know Japanese customs as well as I do and that my "reasons for edit" were kind of lacking. Therefore, I posted this long thread here to finally provide the explanation that I wanted to say but didn't do so earlier due to my own oversight. In any event, I'm not mad with them because I realize I could've explained better and earlier.
Goukenimaru, if you are reading this thread of messages (after that last edit on the Trivia page telling you to come here [which has been done as we speak and is not reflected above] or the personal messages I sent you), my apologies for not providing this explanation earlier. To your point of Wild Mass Guessing in the second edit, I have explained here the two options because at the end of the day, both are the only ones which lead to Gichii being classified as Giyu's descendant (but as I said, one implies he did not marry). As such, its not Wild Mass Guessing in the traditional context but providing the only two options available (which should be okay because of how limited it is).

I'm always eager to learn and share! If you want Goukenimaru to read it, you should go to his profile and message him to come here. Your best time was before your second edit, but since he's also the star of the query he needs to talk here as well.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupRegardless of how valid your addition is, it should be noted that you two are both deep into an Edit War, which is a suspension-worthy offense. In the first instance of your trope being removed, you should have contacted the other troper to discuss the matter or posted here for consensus instead of adding your edit back. That said, they should have done the same once you did add it back. That's one heck of a back-and-forth without any effort from either of you to actually talk the matter over.
Have you actually contacted the other troper directly to come here?
Edited by OctoyaI have messaged Goukenimaru to come here. I apologize for not doing this earlier. Today is actually the first day I became aware of this protocol for Edit Wars on Tv Tropes. I will be aware of it in the future, I promise. I hope that I can be given me a one-time instance of forgiveness, though I understand if the mods insist on a small penalty. I truly did not mean to ignore, inflame, or be ignorant. And I really like that the protocol is to talk it out, I'd rather do that than the Edit War.
Thank you for your help on teaching me the ways of the site Amonimus, Octoya. I really appreciate it.
Edited by StressedequalsDesserts I enjoy anime, manga, history, learning, video games, science, and everything really. I'm always eager to learn and share! This should be edited to the opening post, but the issue in question is in regards the ending of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, so spoilers inbound since people still watch the anime.
Regardless, I think it would be easier if the this bit was at a new bullet in Word of Saint Paul, which mostly discusses Giyu and Shinobu degree of familiarity in different adaptations, while the point in question talks about Giyu's modern sucessor/reincarnation is the Distant Finale.
Even in English "descendant" can mean both things (If that's false, I learn every day), and typically with epilogues like that authors tend to not bother to show all of the final pairings. It's true that a few masters in the setting have adopted people as theirs heirs, and Giyu may or may not have left children, so the note is valid, but I'm not sure how important it is to point it out.
Edited by Amonimus TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupStressedequals Desserts: While it's good that you tried to reach out to Goukenimaru and that you brought the issue to ATT, I am afraid that I have to suspend both you and Goukenimaru for edit warring as per Administrivia.Edit War protocol.
We can talk about this situation further in the Edit Banned thread.
Edited by MacronNotes Macron's notesI think I will do that Amonimus. The reason I felt it important to point it out is because many people automatically assume he married, when there actually is one other option thanks to Japanese cultural customs. I understand that the readers of this site are probably not as well versed in Japanese customs as me, but for historical context, we should make sure people know the situation. The way Western readers understand things is not always the way Japanese readers do, and given this piece of media is Japanese in origin with Japanese cultural context, people should be aware of it.
As of typing this, I don't plan to add the bullet since I have no clue when is appropriate, given the situation. Is the Edit War over? If not, then when is the optimal time? I don't want to be suspended again, over this matter or any other matter.
I enjoy anime, manga, history, learning, video games, science, and everything really. I'm always eager to learn and share!I suggest waiting till Goukenimaru is online, gets through "the processes", and responds with something, so you can settle out if the note should stay or not in a proper conversation, and further action can be decided depending how that goes.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupPossibly good news. After discussing the conflict, I think me and Goukenimaru have come to an acceptable compromise. But before editing the pages, Goukenimaru please confirm that we've agreed as intended.

Spoilers for the ending of Kimetsu no Yaiba. Read at your own risk!!
In the Word of Saint Paul subsection of the page, people initially wrote that Giyu had descendants (which is true according to manga materials) but that he did so through marriage. However, there is nowhere in the manga that states he married or hints a wife. Normally, this would not be important but the setting is Japan, which has its own customs regarding descendants.
In Japan, one can have descendants the normal way (which entails marriage or biologically having kids with someone) or through adopting an heir (who can then adopt their heir or have kids biologically. In either case, the kids of the adopted heir would still count as descendants of the original adopter). Both ways are acceptable for allowing someone to have descendants. In the manga, we get hints of adopting kids being a viable way of having children/descendants, so this custom of Japanese culture is maintained within the manga. And once again, when given multiple chances to indicate Giyu's wife or if he married in extra materials, the author declined to do so, which is very intentional to those with understandings of Japanese culture.
As such, I edited the page by cleaning up some grammar and adding the addendum to the end of the trope which says (though due to Japanese customs, its not clear whether it was through adoption or marriage). This addendum does not stress which option is correct, but only educates the readers on a historical concept which is applicable, present within the story, and isn't necessarily apparent to Western readers or those without an understanding of Japanese (and Confucian) customs. Initially, I did this earlier last year, but it keeps being removed by the same troper (with the most recent edit being removed earlier today).
What should be done about this? I'm getting tired of having this removed so I elaborated on the matter here for the person who removed it to see. (Japanese culture and customs are difficult, I know. But I have more real world proof of this concept if you insist on learning more)
