Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Can you show some examples? I admittedly only skimmed but I’m not seeing anything substantially worse than any other page?
Old Enough to Be Your Absurdly Youthful MotherI've skimmed through edit history but from a quick glance I saw only punctuation adjustments and making some notes more elaborate. Also just a friendly reminder that the trope itself is about typos, so I hope nothing unnecessary got changed.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupWhen I said to start a project I mainly meant that if the pages were too large, maybe enlisting more help there would work. If that's a bad idea though I get it.
Works That Require Cleanup Of Complaining | Troper WallShort-Term is a good place to fix large pages if there's too much for one person, I just don't see the exact problem the OP has without pinpointed examples to judge the size of the issue.
Edited by Amonimus TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupI was only able to skim last night while half-asleep, but I also didn't see any obvious typos.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallI think the stuff that OP is talking about is capitalization issues, parentheses, and punctuation. Some of the examples were like this:
- Trope Name: example text
to:
- Trope Name: (Example text.)
Which...is fine for cleanup, and I agree it's annoying, but if that's all that it its, there's no need for a thread.
Now, if there's other things that I'm missing, then they should be brought up.
Edited by ArctimonQuestion: have notifiers been sent (and do they need to be sent)?
Works That Require Cleanup Of Complaining | Troper WallYeah, what I was talking about is indeed capitalization, parentheses, and punctuation. Aside from some examples without text, and the first subpage being large enough for a split, that's about it, though on a much larger scale than what I'm used to.
What do you mean most of the edits were from ten years ago? The pages were created in 2021, I think. (Though there's a good chance they had it on the JFF page before the split.)
Edited by ARandomPage Troper Wall, sandbox, and I'm trying to kill typos.Yeah, that's a bit weird, unless The Sykfoogle decided to merge them all together sometime in 2021? I distinctly remember finding these pages years ago, and there were way more than just two subpages. I thought I might've been misremembering until just now.
Edit: Courtesy link.
Edit 2: Wait, now looking at the main pages history the examples were indeed moved from the main page, but I s2g there used to be subpages.
Edited by WarJay77 Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallHuh. Strange. Pages that we think were older seem to have been created in 2021 (eg. Trope-tan) even though they were not. Probably some form of namespace migrating. Also, the troper's name is The Skyfoogle. They're quite active.
Edit: There are many indentation and alphabetization errors as well. And here I thought I could go fix the thing myself over some time. A bit of Department of Redundancy Department there as well.
Edited by ARandomPage Troper Wall, sandbox, and I'm trying to kill typos.Well... uh... there's over a thousand edits. I would ask for examples, but I couldn't give any back when I started this thread.
Troper Wall, sandbox, and I'm trying to kill typos.ATT isn't a good fit for long conversations like this. If the page needs to be cleaned up, take it to Short-Term Projects if necessary.
You can't just say "perchance".

So, I went to The Problem with Pen Island's two subpages (both detailing This Very Wiki) and found a lot of typos. While this is not so bad as I usually fix it myself, the pages are huge, and it'd take me around an hour to clean up a folder.
Should we split the pages? What do we do about all the cleanup needed? And why has this gone unnoticed for so long? (Or am I not meant to touch those pages?)
