Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread

Policy is the official name version is used. If the creator uses the numeral (like Babylon 5), then so does the work page. If the creator spells out the number, then it's spelled out for the work page.
All your safe space are belong to TrumpI've noticed people being lazier since the custom title was introduced. They'll do something easy to wiki word, and use the custom title tool to make it look right.
Unfortunately, the custom title is bugged for multi-word namespaces, leading to messes like Final Fantasy X-2, which should be Final Fantasy X-2
Edited by ccoa Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.How do I request a change from Battlefield 3 to Battlefield 3? Do I wait for a mod to read this topic, or is there a forum thread I have to post in or a form I have to fill out?
I doubt it requires any consensus or approval. Just move the page and make Battlefield Three a redirect to it.
Be sure to use the correct namespace, as I see the original creator of the page didn't. The namespace is Video Game, not Videogame.
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.It is already custom-titled Battlefield 3. if you want to have a proper title, you'll have to move the page over to Battlefield 3.
Edited by SeptimusHeap "For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanVideoGame.Battlefield Three and Videogame.Battlefield Three are the same page. As is ViDeOgaMe.Battlefield Three. Doesn't matter how you Wiki Word it.
The single-word Videogame/ is actually preferred because there's still a tech issue with two-word namespaces and custom titles. So you should use Videogame/. Note that if you look up the word, you'll find that both versions are accepted spellings.
Video Game/ is common in a large part because the namespace was originally split off of just Game/. When you're changing a wick from Game/ to Videogame/, it's easier to just write "Video" in front of it without changing the capitalization. But Videogame/ is actually better. (At least until the bug is fixed.)
Edited by troacctid Rhymes with "Protracted.""Videogame" is not a word. We discussed this and decided to go with the two word version when we split up the Game namespace. That's why it's common, not because people were being lazy.
It's been brought up here before, and Video Game is preferred, not Videogame.
Edited by ccoa Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.As for the FFX-2 thing, it probably doesn't help that most tropers probably don't realize that VideoGame/{{Final Fantasy X-2}} works.
Actually, why does the proper spelling (with the dash) redirect to the version without the dash that is in turn customized to the correct spelling? The main page shouldn't need a custom title because it should be the hyphenated page that is the actual name of the game.
Edited by BalmungVideogame is an accepted alternate spelling of Video game.
We don't like dashes in titles even though they're technically allowed, cuz it makes the title hard to write.
Edited by troacctid Rhymes with "Protracted."I wasn't aware that that was a major concern for us, especially given that using the title with the dash gets around the multiword namespace custom title bug.
Whoops, double post
Edited by Balmung^^Source, please? Last I checked, it was not.
EDIT: I just did a quick check of online dictionaries and Wikipedia, and nothing lists it as a valid alternate spelling.
Edited by ccoa Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.I'm in the process of transferring the contents of Videogame.Battlefield Three into VideoGame.Battlefield 3, and I'm about halfway there. Other than the indices, Battlefield 3 and its subpages are still intact. Some redirects such as Main.Battlefield Three, Main.Battlefield 3, and Main.BF 3 are giving me trouble though. Does making Battlefield 3 a redirect automatically make the other redirects point to Battlefield 3?
Man, what a pain just to avoid brackets.
Edited by TwoDollarBillTransfer complete. All the indices and redirects have been changed to reflect this. All of the content, including the subpages, have been moved, though I haven't deleted the Battlefield Three pages yet. I don't know how to get the YMMV, Funny and Awesome buttons to appear though.
I know this is a pretty big change from a nobody like me, so I'm sorry if I did something wrong or if I stepped out of line. I just want the pages to be right.
Edited by TwoDollarBillYou have forgotten to set the page type to work. I did it for you.
Thank you.
It looks like everything's transferred and settled in. However, Battlefield Three still shows up in several namespace indices. Would cutlisting the Battlefield Three subpages fix this?
^ You need to replace the Battlefield Three subpages on each of the indexes with the Battlefield3 subpages, just as you would any other index.
That said, the Battlefield Three subpages should be cutlisted because we don't usually keep subpages to a redirect.
Right, and I've done so with the editable indices. But there are some indices that don't seem to have a way of editing them, like the Video Game Namespace Index. Then again, I see things like "Assassin's Creed 2" and "Assassin's Creed II" in the list, so I guess it's working properly?
As for cutlisting the Battlefield Three subpages, I'll get right on it.
I think those auto-generated indices just list every page in the namespace, whether it's an actual page or a redirect.
What's this wiki's policy regarding titles with Arabic numerals that aren't WikiWords? For example, the creator of the Battlefield 3 page specifically made it "three" and not "3" just to make it a Wiki Word and to avoid curly brackets, despite absolutely no one calling it Battlefield "Three". It just seems really arbitrary, especially when games like Persona 4 avoided this treatment.
