Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Flame Bait isn't an actual namespace. If a trope is labeled Flame Bait (in this case, What An Idiot), it's not to be listed anywhere on a work's page unless it's in-universe only. So, it should just be deleted.
It can be added in WhatAnIdiot. The Simpsons, just not crosswicked.
135 -> 180 -> 273 -> 191 -> 188 -> 230 -> 300 -> 311Can you double check who made the page? Is that still possible? Because there was reports of someone making pages like that a few days ago.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallConfirmed that it is in-universe. I have done as Crossover Enthusiast suggested.
Maybe that person who was "making pages like that a few days ago" was likewise confused by the flame icon. You can see it in my sandbox, which however doesn't show icons telling people to move entries to Trivia or YMMV.
Can someone adjust the flame icon's text? And if so, what should it be adjusted to?
The reason the other icons aren't showing up is because Flame Bait isn't allowed anywhere, whereas Trivia and YMMV are okay to use in personal sandboxes, so the icons don't trigger. IDK why it mentions a "Flame Bait tab", but I think it would take admin intervention to change it.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallThe admins would need to change the text to something like "This example contains a FlameBait entry. It should be removed". It's been reported on Query Bugs Before.
Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods Of Incremental)Okay, when I mean "in-universe", I mean " characters talk about this trope in-universe". The entry is about how Homer was an idiot, which is just What An Idiot played straight (a character does something completely idiotic).
For it to be an in-universe example, it would have to involve a character watching a show and commenting how dumb a character is acting in it. And even then, I'm not sure if What An Idiot is conductive for in-universe examples.
So, that entry shouldn't be on the recap page at all. It should just be cut.
Edited by chasemaddiganI don't even know if WAI can apply to Homer because he's always stupid.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallFor reference this is the edit
in question.
I have to agree with the above, it's not in-universe at all and should not be on the recap's page.
Edited by laserviking42 I didn't choose the troping life, the troping life chose meWhat exact resolution are you talking about? Most people just think the example should be deleted.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallShould What An Idiot be kept as it is, should it be deleted altogether, should it be... or maybe it would be easiest on me to delete the example on the Simpsons recap and just forget I ever came across that trope.
What An Idiot was recently moved to Flame Bait by that thread. Maybe read through it; the actual solution has already been figured out, now we're doing cleanup.

So The Simpsons S33 E2 "Bart's in Jail" contains a Flame Bait entry that should be moved to the Flame Bait tab. Okay, I can take care of that. Or so I thought. I created The Simpsons S 33 E 2 Barts In Jail but that page also says "This example contains a Flame Bait entry. It should be moved to the Flame Bait tab."
Help, anyone? In the meantime, I'm not deleting anything from YMMV.
