I think this is a good idea. The various adaptations are quite dissimilar (at least in some aspects) and having common subpages is bound to be confusing.

Mostly I'm in favour of disambiguation because it is only a matter of time before a remake appears in any/another medium, forcing us to move them anyway. For the Literature-franchise page, I suggest Literature. The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy Trilogy to continue the joke, instead of by year.

Definitely worth splitting those, and ^'s suggestion of Literature. The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy Trilogy is the best option for that page.

I might end up making a Short-Term Projects thread for taking care of the wicks, then. There's not an overwhelmingly large amount of them, but each one has at least 100 wicks, with the largest (the Literature page) having 961 at the moment.

As for the naming suggestions: I'll admit I'm slightly hesitant to give the page an intentionally inaccurate name because of a joke, but in all fairness I'm not sure there are any better alternatives. (Literature. The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy Series has the opposite problem of being a bit too dry, not to mention potentially inviting confusion with the Series/ page.) I don't mean to come across as a "no fun allowed" type of person, but it's something that gives me pause - even if it's slight.

Isn’t “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy Trilogy” the official name of the series, despite it consisting of five books? In that case, using that name is not you being inaccurate; it’s the author having chosen an intentionally inaccurate title.

^ It's a common label on the paperbacks, but it's not really an official name.

Ironically, it might be the clearest name for the page (at the moment, at least).

I'm going to give this one more bump to gather some more opinions before I go ahead and split the pages.

Giving this an extra bump for the evening. If no one else comments, I'll go ahead and start splitting on Sunday.

For those unfamiliar, the series is an example of Trilogy Creep, and this fact is often part of the advertising on the book cover. To describe the highlights...

  • Douglas Adams called it a "trilogy in four parts" after the fourth book came out and an "increasingly inaccurately-named trilogy" for the fifth.

^ I don't think that's necessary. It would just look awkward.

^^ I understand the desire to make it clear that it's not actually a trilogy, but I agree with Primis that it would look a bit awkward.

I'm still not 100% convinced on what to name it, but if there are no objections in a few hours or so, I think I'll go ahead with moving it to Literature. The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy Trilogy (alongside the other pages, of course).

I hate to keep dragging this out, but one last question just occurred to me: would it be a good idea to open a Short-Terms Project thread solely dedicated to moving each page's wicks, or would this ATT suffice for that purpose?

It's probably easier to locate a project thread than search ATT if you want a thread for reference later, or if you can't move everything and migrate wicks at once.

Alright then. I've moved the pages involved (using the Trilogy name for the literature series) and have started a Short-Term Projects thread for moving the wicks, since I won't be able to do them all in a single go.
