I don't have much to go on, so I apologize in advance. It's a memory that popped into my head a couple of days ago, and I'm going crazy trying to place it.
The comic in question is almost certainly published by Marvel, and probably published in the 80s.
The page that's stuck in my head is of a character (possibly Wolverine???) that has saved an injured adversary from death, or is trying to give some comfort in their final moments. The adversary wordlessly expresses their hate for the character by reaching up with their right hand and scratching deep gouges into the character's left cheek. The scratching is depicted in three panels as the adversary digs their fingers down.
It's the adversary's final act, as they die after doing this.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Thanks for your time.
Edit: The answer came to me while I was doing some housekeeping. It was Captain America and the Red Skull, in Captain America #300. My apologies.
