Could it be Labyrinth? In it a teen girl navigates through a labyrinth full of trap doors and stuff like that to get to the fortress of the villain, who's played by David Bowie in a campy costume
◊. There's no boy travelling with the girl, though the plot involves her saving her infant brother from the villain.

First of all, I'm sorry for the vagueness of this query. I'm 28 now and was about 4 or so when I saw it.
What I recall is this: I believe there were 2 protagonists, a young boy and a young girl. Early teens at the oldest. They were, for some reason or another, navigating their way through the villain's fortress or castle or something. They had a number of booby traps to overcome and I remember that the villain was watching them somehow, triggering traps as they got near them to try to either kill them or some kid-friendly variation on killing them. I remember the villain pushing buttons to trigger the traps. One was labeled "Hot Sparks" and resulted in hot sparks shooting up from the floor. Another trap was some kind of large wheel they had to run away from, Indiana Jones style.
I seem to recall the villain having something of a campy/gaudy costume but I don't know that for certain.
Of course, this could all have been from some fever-induced warped dream, too. I think it was a show or movie, though, as I seem to recall watching it on TV at my grandparents' place.
