I found this description of "William's Busy Day" episode
- In this program, William and his friends come upon a castle, which they believe to be owned by smugglers. William sneaks inside in order to get a closer look. Upon arriving in the castle, William meets the houseboy and decides it would be fun to switch places with him. William soon discovers that he is working for an eccentric mad woman, Miss Polliter
and a backwoods search suggests that it based on a story from William the Outlaw

(Before Recorded History)

This can be either Literature (the original story) or Live Action TV (the 1994/1995 TV series episode I saw).
I'm looking for a particular Just William story, but the only basis I have is the French-dubbed episode:
- William and friends approach a mansion they identify as an insane asylum ("It's where the bolsheviks used to brainwash their victims!").
- William enters, sees a boy inside cleaning dishes, and for some reason the boy goes and William stays.
- The maid sees William and thinks the boy changed faces. She's distraught not just about this, but also other reasons, chief among them the current tenant (a lady) always ringing her.
- William eventually goes to speak to the lady, and their chat includes something like this:
- William: Are you crazy?
- Lady: Would I be here if I weren't? This is my third fit of hysteria today!
