It's a simple Dork Age because Disney had no interest in the show they picked up when they bought Power Rangers from Saban. Disney would give Digimon another shot with Data Squad, but again they couldn't care less about the show and when Saban rescued Power Rangers from Disney, they got Digimon back as well and both shows went to Nickelodeon.
Power Rangers continued on Nickelodeon while Digimon swapped to the OVA movies with tri following Fusion's airing. There's been no other Digimon broadcasts on Nickelodeon since Fusion.
I would like to add my two cents here: I don't think it counts as a Franchise Killer, given that the franchise is still ongoing, so it should be removed.
He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.^x2 - Sorry, I was basically saying there's no overall franchise killer, just that the anime in the west has been hurt by the underperformances that followed Frontier including the tri OV As.
But isn't it worth noting that the franchise, or at least the anime, was killed at some point before the attempts at a revival? Also, if "the franchise is still going" is good enough reason to nuke the example, then what about the Gundam entries? The Gundam franchise has a very strong presence to this day.
The Digimon example is bad because it doesn't show which entry is the actual killer. I say delete it.
Also, if the Franchise actually needs to be killed in order to count, then I guarantee you that the majority of the examples of Franchise Killer are not going to be valid examples.
On top of that, the franchise is still going strong in Japan, complete with a Pokémon GO-style clone - this is, at best, just dubbing companies/networks being cheap with a franchise that's been niche wherever Pokemon hit first.

So, Digimon is registered in Franchise Killer under the following context: The decline of the virtual pet craze caused Digimon to take a few major knocks in the merch sales, and it wasn't helped by Digimon Tamers underperforming in its target demographic (though it did end up Vindicated by History when older audiences rediscovered it). Digimon Frontier attempted to reverse the decline by retooling itself as a Henshin Hero series, but this alienated a chunk of existing fans and failed to create enough new ones, putting the franchise on ice until Digimon Data Squad four years later. And then it went on hiatus until Digimon Fusion four years later again. And then another hiatus until Digimon Adventure tri. four years later yet again (five'' years later with Digimon Universe: App Monsters if only counting TV shows). Needless to say, the franchise has had it rough since its heyday.
I have to ask, is this valid? Considering the franchise still continues to this day, does it really belong on the Franchise Killer page?
