You can just change "American Indian" to "Native American".

Or you could not change it.

Most of the indigenous group in question prefer "American Indian" to "Native American."

For the first point, "American Indian" is acceptable term. Well the terminology is still under discussion, but I don't think anyone will take issue when the entry on the page is written neutrally. Don't know about the second point.

Yeah, the second point is completely not the case. Not even sure where that's coming from; certainly not any Star Trek material I'm familiar with, although I have a vague recollection of a seventh-season TNG episode not dealing with the Maquis that may be getting misremembered here.
