Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Isn't Rescued for actual scrappies, not Base Breaking Characters? If that's the case then I think this is misuse anyway.
Feel free to help with the sandbox or edit my troper wallIris isn't a scrappy outside to shippers in a middle of ship-to-ship combat (basically the fighting over who Ash should be with in the future when he's done adventuring and wants to settle down romantically). At most she would be a base-breaking character from Best Wishes.
If Iris is no longer causing a broken base outside obvious shipping wars, then it could be a case of Author's Saving Throw I think.
In this ATT
, a troper defended that Base-Breaking characters can be Rescued from the Scrappy Heap, but I don't think there is a consensus. This question has been brought up before
, but apparently nobody in the cleanup thread could come up with a definitive answer.

YMMV.Pokemon Journeys The Series
This was deleted as "None of this is any different from Iris was portrayed in Best Wishes. She's still the same character, people just didn't pay attention to her beyond her catchphrase back then".
I still think it's an example as it fixes why critics "didn't pay attention" by giving her more desirable traits to offset that, even if the hate was irrational it still existed to be Rescued from. (It also seems like complaining about the haters.)
Should it be added back?
