There's something to be said for a variation like 'The first rule of romance is do not talk about romance.' As in, making your intentions too obvious early on will likely chase a potential romantic partner away.
I mean, if I told train-girl I'm just about in love with her, I don't think she'd be too happy to go on that date after all.
(Speaking of train-girl, I really hope she's not a lesbian. Okay, technically the odds are tiny, but I seem to have a thing for women who turn out to be lesbians).
Mache dich, mein Herze, rein...Okay, I've got a crush on her, whatever, whatever. Translating these concepts is hard, apparently.
Mache dich, mein Herze, rein...Romance definitions for the ignorant:
Crush: A person you know as a friend and would like to know better romantically
To like: to enjoy the company of, either as a friend or as a romantic interest
To love: To know someone intimately and still like them, to envision a realistic future with them, to not want to envision a future without them. Love has many more definitions and menaings but this is a SANE definition.
To like the looks of: You've seen a person on the street and you think they are attractive in some way.

Yeah, but... well, in my language, we have two concepts which basically translate as 'to be in love with X' (verliefd zijn op X) and 'to love X' (houden van X), respectively. They're related but different, and the latter carries much stronger implications than the former. (Hell, there's even an awful pop song about the difference between the two). I was going for the former, without all the heavy implications of the latter, but they seem to be impossible to tell apart in English. I guess "crush" comes closest.

Mache dich, mein Herze, rein...It's generally expected for guys to make the first move anyway (which is something that I profusely disagree with, but hey, society), so I don't see how it wouldn't be fine for a guy to be flirtatious.
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.

I've given good advice before! You just weren't around to see it. >.>
