...Woah. You posted in the discussion thread first, and you gave a rather detailed description of you intended to play. That's great!

So, my only big problems with this relate primarily to the scan ability, and potentially locate person/object. For scanning, in general we've had players who like to keep aspects of their characters secret, and an everything sensor can usually disrupt what a player is trying to angle for with their character if, say, they are actually secretly a vampire and then it's found out they're a vampire just offhandedly. How we usually handle this is we say that if somebody is trying to scan a thing controlled by another player, that player determines the result, which both lets your character be useful and gives the targeted player agency.

I think for locate person/object the same thing could easily be done (that is, letting the target determine results if you're looking for something controlled by another player), for similar reasons; sometimes the ability to arbitrarily locate a specific object, if somebody running a story event doesn't balance it around that specifically, can crack it wide open. And that just kills the fun, you know?

I'm okay with other players determining the sort of result Lost gets from her magic when used on them. The GM controlling a location would be effectively the player of that environment, and thus would be the person determining what information Lost could get from it. If I have a problem with something, I'll bring it up in this thread.

Now, here's a bit of extra info about how the scanning and finding works: They're basically short range vs long range versions of the same divination magic, which can be active and/or passive. The active version needs a specifier to look for and can give multiple pings and vague information like with radar or sonar, the passive version needs Lost to interpret it and can be interfered with. It's not perfect, and it requires training and experience to understand. Plus, the locator effect gives info only as specific as your tools can make it: If you're just looking around, you get a vague "That Way, sort of at this distance-ish?" and if you have a map, you might get "It's probably in that house/tank/garbage pile" unless you have some very high-quality identifiers. Also, there's no time specifier, Lost Star can't prophesy. At best it's like psychometry, but it's otherwise dowsing and doesn't come with a lot of guarantees beyond very basic info (as long as magic even works).

Alright, with that out of the way it looks like you're good!

The current setting we're in is Nether Vegas - an eclectic mashup of a Netherworld from Disgaea and the Mojave Wasteland from Fallout: New Vegas. It's the sort of setting that can only really pop up in a game like this.

Right now there aren't particularly any events ongoing - the game has been relatively slow. The current event mostly regards a loose collection of lunatics trying to one-up the Roman god Jupiter in a series of Hercules-esque trials after learning that Jupiter caused the local player mercenary company to dissolve overnight by poofing all their money out of existence, but the current trial is over and we're in a downtime period of sorts.

Do you have any further questions?

I'd quite like for Cheri to have met the hydra after you guys had left it - Cheri doesn't really know what happened, but it was upset at some guy(s?) that stole its heart (doesn't know it was literal) and Cheri basically listened, gave it a lot of ice cream, tried to cheer it up and exchanged phone numbers with it. Any objection to that?

For something like that, I honestly don't mind a bit. Most characters don't usually follow up on things like that, so in this case I've no problem saying you can write that bit of history in.

Thankfully in Nethervegas, losing your heart isn't necessarily lethal if you don't realize it tongue

I see that you have gotten lost on your way to the Forum Games section of our website. Or perhaps it was the Gaia Online roleplaying forums you had meant to type this in? Either way, it's a shame that you're trying to get yourself banned on your very first post, but I trust you will be able to find the exit on your own without the need to go to such drastic measures.

Have a nice Thanksgiving. Or if you're not American, have a nice Red Planet Day. smile

But really, come back if you have an actual character to submit instead of trying to take the piss, there's a trillion irc channels to go to for that

Man, I have like 5 ideas for this right now. Not sure if I should slow-drip or post all at once.

NAME: Pysyva/Inkke Rinne

GEAR: Armo — Pysyva's current animal companion, a particularly large brown bear. Its connection to Pysyva gives it even greater strength and durability than the average bear, though it also weakens as Pysyva does.

POWERS: Pysyva draws power from her connection to the wilderness, in particular the wilderness of her homeland. This allows her to do a variety of things, including control aspects of nature, call upon natural creatures for help, shapeshifting into animals and elemental forces, and purging or destroying things that are unnatural. The upper limit of this ability is defined to some extent by Pysyva's proximity to her homeland, ranging from godlike in the heart of it, to equivalent to an accomplished mortal mage worlds away.

As long as her home exists in some form, she will not age, and she will reform in it if killed by conventional means—though this process can take anywhere from days to decades to centuries. If someone finds a way to bind or trap her spirit, however, she can be killed completely.

PERSONALITY: Pysyva fits the typical mold of a duty-bound person—somewhat reserved, honest, and one to play by certain rules. That said, one of those rules is defending people from unjustified authority and protecting customs, so she will sometimes act as a liberator. She's always interested in learning about new customs, worldviews, and forms of magic, though she'll only participate to the point she feels comfortable doing. She is a bit judgemental at times, mostly of people who can't stand on their own or who shirk responsibility.

BACKSTORY: Pysyva was once a druid, performing rites and guiding people in an alternate version of Finland with magic and monsters. It wasn't a perfect life—some people don't take to advice too well—but it was a life she appreciated. Overtime, though, things started to change—Christian missionaries came, and swayed more and more people over to another religion. Though it never rose to the level of violence or tyranny, the change of culture was something Inkke was not happy with, and Inkke knew it would only be a matter of time before belief in other faiths was considered a crime, as it was in other Christian nations.

As Inkke prayed to her gods for a way to bring them back into favor, she received a vision telling her to go far out into Europe to search for another druid. After a very long time adventuring, she learned that she was part of a prophecy meant to bring a pagan god into earth—what she would become, Pysyva. Upon assuming that title, and the title of Queen of Finland, she would strive to protect the remaining pagan lands, as well as new ones emerging as various monstrous races were able to return to aboveground homes. She did this well, but this eventually earned her the ire of her people, as she—while not outright opposed to development—did restrict it as other nations explored, industrialized and grew in prosperity. Amid growing unrest, Pysyva at some point decided that she no longer had a right to rule and abdicated.

Pysyva's retirement hasn't been completely inactive (she's been in many European colonies, for instance), but she's been much less visible to the public eye. Of late, she's been noticing the incursion of magic from other dimensions in her own...

Formally speaking, yes. You're more than free to post whenever you deem appropriate.

At the moment, it's a bit more complicated. A number of veteran players have been talking with me about the possibility of taking We Are Our Avatars to another platform for various reasons, so to speak.

Till I have some kind of official statement to make regarding what we're planning, though, the game's going to remain open, even if it's rather sluggish. At its heart, the game is still one that is about character interaction, so feel free to drop on in anytime you can. smile

Late reply, but official word is basically

TL;DR we DID start making plans to open up a Discord server as another option to rping right here on TV Tropes.

Then the mass quarantines went into effect. Which frankly, kinda disrupted a lotta people's lives. Especially for those who had to keep working while everything was on lockdown.

So we're admittedly putting a lot of plans in general on hold till we make sense of where things are going to go here. Sorry for the wait, but I do hope you can understand. And that you're all staying safe while all this has been going down.

I read the rules, but I can’t find a sign-up thread for this, so I’d really appreciate it if someone could show me where it is or clarify if there even is one or not. Thanks! Is there anything else that I need to know or do before joining?

Welcome to the game! Unfortunately, as you can see above, we're kind of dormant at the moment while we deal with possible plans to expand this RP elsewhere, as well as the onslaught of Real Life that has been hitting us since last February. Keep an eye on this thread, though! What happens next to the game will be announced here when it happens!

Hi there. This got me curious. I'd like to jump in as the faceless gentleman in the blue coat - specifically, the DCAU version. Please tell me if the following scenario is viable:

- Some time after "Destroyer", a villain gets hold of Toyman's disintegrator-but-not-really weapon from "Hereafter", Question gets zapped and ends up wherever you folks are. A post-apocalyptic Vegas, yes? - The character is totally disoriented, just like the player (moi) is. He'll need some briefing. - I don't know much Anime/Manga, just a couple dozen works, and only superficially. In lieu of a presentation, a person could just post the link to the relevant work page and I'll look up the character and get up to speed about personality/history/abilities/etc. Like: "Hi, I'm Pyunma from Cyborg 009." - If there are any DC characters active in there, it'd be really great.

So... makes sense?

I wonder if Candle Jack also pays attention to signat

So I've just found out about this, and I want to start looking into this from the beginning (Not needed, I know). When trying to check out the first 503 pages I got confuse on who is speaking to who. I know that the those first pages were just shits and giggles with minor character introduction, but there could be some characters I need to know about before going into the Spirit Tracks Arc.
