Remember links don't work in titles. So, courtesy link. And... I guess you have a point there. I didn't even know who Pete Best is before I read the article. I'll be willing to back this.

My troper wall's now my troper page, yay! Come to IJBMThe problem I see is that The Other Marty was made to snowclone The Other Darrin, and while The Other Darrin is fairly well-known, The Other Marty is unique to this wiki as far as I can tell and hasn't caught on outside of it.
Rather than making yet another snowclone, I suggest that we call The Pete Best something like The Beatles First Drummer if we must keep a refence to The Beatles, or Replaced And Forgotten.
Weren't we just on here arguing to change The Other Darrin to something else? I distinctly remember suggesting something revolving around Dick Sargent in that thread...
And alliterator just nailed the description of the trope before s/he looked at it. I don't see the problem.

Some people want to change The Other Darrin, but it's a well-established term that was around long before this wiki, so there's no reason to think it's going to be renamed. And even if it was, I'd fight tooth and nail against a name based on Dick Sergeant.

I don't want to change The Other Darrin, but I would rather we changed The Other Marty.
If we must change The Pete Best, how about The Fifth Beatle? I could get behind Left Before They Got Famous, but it's not a noun and thus can't be used in the same way.
Edit: Actually, The Pete Best has only 14 wicks, so we could probably get away with renaming it to Left Before They Got Famous. It also looks like a rename really would be a good idea.

Welcome To TV Tropes | How To Write An Example | Text Formatting Rules | List Of Shows That Need Summary | TV Tropes Forum | Know The StaffFifth Beatle already has a different set of connotations than The Pete Best (or any descriptive rename) has.
Personally, I say keep. Pete Best isn't particularly obscure, and he's probably the best example of the trope around. Better The Pete Best than The Gummo Marx or some overly-wordy descriptive title.
Wellll as I came up with this name, I am a bit biased towards it
I think this works because a.)He's not known for anything but being Mr. What Could Have Been, and b.)Apologies if this comes off as Fan Myopia, but he's still well known to people only casually acquainted with The Beatles.
(After reading the article) It seems he was the drummer before Ringo and left right before they really got big.
Also, he and Lennon make a guest appearance in the first volume of The Invisibles!
Oops, I was wrong, too: the one who shows up in The Invisibles is actually Stuart Sutcliffe
, the Beatles' original bassist.
But man, there have been quite a few fifth Beatles
.
The Other Ringo, if anything, is even less clear than The Pete Best. To me, it implies that the guy who left and and guy who replaced him are on equal footing popularity-wise, which isn't at all true in the case of this trope.
My first choice is to leave as is. If it absolutely must be renamed, Left Before they Got Famous is my favorite so far.
I like Left Before They Got Famous. It's the expression people tend to use when talking about this kind of celebrity.
SPOON-wise, I like Replaced And Forgotten. Short and to the point.

and a box hereSurely to get all meta for a second, the fact that few people recognise this guy's name is kind of the point of the trope? He's the guy who could have been famous but got shunted aside and forgotten when someone else took his place.
I'm not the biggest fan of trope names that rely on insider knowledge, but it seems kind of appropriate in this case. The Fifth Beatle doesn't work because (a) that's more a name for anyone who's kind of an add-on to the main cast without actually being part of the main cast (since 'The Fifth Beatle' tends to get hurled at anyone who either was a former member of, friend of or was loosely affiliated with the four actual Beatles at some point) and (b) to be pedantic, it's inaccurate since Best was originally the Fourth Beatle; he was replaced, he didn't just quit.
If we must rename, then maybe something like Replacement Became Famous?
Replaced And Forgotten gets my vote.
Don't take life too seriously. It's only a temporary situation.I prefer Left Before They Got Famous.

Crown Description:
Vote up for yes, down for no.

This would fit the pattern established by The Other Darrin and The Other Marty while lessening the "must be familiar with source material" gap (a great deal more people know who Ringo is).
