Here's how it works, from when I start a new game:

It writes the line in the middle, and then switches to the next screen, where most of the introduction text is going to be written.

It then writes three lines, where the second line overlaps the line written earlier. It starts at the top again, writing three lines as before, and then it writes the fourth line by scrolling down into blank space. It then scrolls down again, writing the fifth line over the first line, which has now appeared as writing on the bottom row of the text box. (and the sixth over the second, again scrolling everything up, and so on)

Did that make sense?

Downloaded this game on Friday and it's pretty much taken over my life for the last couple of days. I'm pretty close to the endgame, but good lord is Last Cave (Hidden) difficult.

I've gotten a lot better with the Booster, for obvious reasons...

You are not going to like the Sacred Ground. Usually people use "X makes Y look so easy" as a hyperbole, but this is seriously not the chase.

On the other hand, beating Sacred Ground and the secret boss will give you a great sense of accomplishment. If you don't quit and delete the game in rage, first.

Hey, I beat the first American release of Devil May Cry 3 without switching to Easy. I can do this.

Actually, I half-cheated.

I copied the game, edited my second copy and put a save point and weapon/health refill right before the final boss.

Then I practiced the final boss every so often for a period of several months.

Then I went through Sacred Grounds very, very slowly and carefully, and then beat the final boss, in the regular non-edited version.

I have no clue. I'm also not well-versed in programming at all. I assume you've tried uninstalling and reinstalling?

It's probably a fencepost error in whatever routine blits text to the screen. That doesn't help you fix it, though.

It seems unlikely that it'd be affected by your save, so I recommend saving your profile file somewhere else and reinstalling the program.

Uninstalling and reinstalling appears to do nothing to help. :/

Just beat the Bonus Boss. Victory!

Feels kind of anticlimactic, though. I'd completely forgotten about the Life Pot until my last run through. Using it made the last fight... significantly easier.

You guys are making me feel really inadequate.

So far, I haven't been able to get past the Egg Corridor. (I got to that energy barrier thing, and then ended up dying.)

The boss of Egg corridor can be beaten by standing at a distacne and firing rapidly, since your shots cancel his out. Balfrog takes heavy damage if you find the right spot to stand with the fireball, or of course from the missiles period. I can certainly picture why you'd have trouble with him, though, because even after beating the game multiple times and many mods I never really got to feeling comfortable around those fans.

Oh gosh. The trailer. It's like watching silk. In motion. That's on fire.

I don't see how the trailer is so awesome. It's just gameplay footage.

And the main theme really doesn't match the Outer Wall in mood at all.

Tsunde Ray: Try copying your game, editing the copy to have a save point and weapon refills in the corridor before Ballos, practicing Ballos, and then later going back to the real game and doing Hell very slowly.

"Been stuck in Hell for God-knows-how-many-years-now."

Are you rushing? Take your time when doing Hell. At the beginning of the third room, you can make cherubs appear at will while standing on the platform if you keep going back between the third and second room. Use that area to refill all your health and experience before continuing.

Why would you bother getting health from those cherubs? There's two easily grabbable hearts which reappear every time you leave and reenter the room right next to the entry.

Why would you grind EXP in Hell? the best weapons for the Bonus Boss either don't need EXP or are harmed by it.

Why would you grind EXP in hell?

In order to survive it. Also, there's a boss before the main bonus boss.

Both The Spur and Nemesis outclass pretty much every gun in the game. The only gun that even comes close are the upgraded missiles and they have finite ammo, so it's highly improbable to have them as your main weapon, so it's equally unlikely to have their EXP drained, so grinding EXP means that you are grinding EXP for either the Blade (which doesn't even need that much EXP) or a very-sub optimal weapon. And if you are using such weapon, you are most likely going to die anyways.
