oh yeah....I need to hit him constantly...how long is too long without hitting him? That thing moves around alot. And my shots always deviate to the right.
btw, since the surpassing threshhold to inflict status thing only applies to bowgunners, then how come status effects have a value for melee weapons too? They don't do the threshold method, so whats the value for them for?

"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."Status works exactly the same for bowguns and melee. The only difference is that melee status inflicting attacks trigger randomly.
Also, it might be that Royal Ludroth is highly resistant to paralysis.
I ain't saying no showy crap like "later buddies" or something lame like that. I'll be back soon, you bozos! Then why would they bother to provide us with those paralysis bullets if the given amount wouldn't paralyze them anyways...
Anyways, how long do we have to continuously hit them with status damage before they heal up again? We need to constantly hit them with it right?

"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."I can wait until I get a gobul in the arena. I now have every other piece of the guild bard set. Fuck yeah, autotracker, evasion+2, and awesomely sexy good looks! Since the boots just give torso up, I can wear alloy boots and it's just like having a full set.
In other news. I hate fighting underwater.
- the first handful of missions uptill the Great Jaggi are tutorial missions...
- Also, the weapons are relatively realistic by video game standard. So that great sword you get to use will logically be the slowest and most cumbersome weapon of all...a LOT of people complained about heavy weapons attacking slow...so just be prepared about that.
- Oh yeah, and the thing about armor skills, they don't activate unless you have a certain amount of skill points or more in that skill. Hold your wii-mote over the skill's name to see how much you need for that skill to even activate.
- don't eat wild mushrooms on the ground or tainted meat...
Hunting is such an ugly word, I prefer the term, "violently persuading".
Anyways, yeah, you stalk monsters, poison their food supply, take their children, gradually mutilate and dismember them, hit them in their sleep, blow them, and then skin them to make a nice hat!
And I guess what makes this game unique is that...it's considered relatively challenging by today's standards...and before anyone complains, those load screens are there for gameplay reasons.
Ironically enough, even though multiplayer is one of the major draws of this game, I find that fighting monsters as a team is actually harder then soloing it online. It friendly fire actually did damage, the game would be a step beyond Nintendo Hard.

"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."Depends on what you're looking for. Hunting down a single monster generally results in a pretty large haul of it's parts if you're doing a quest...but if you look at a few pages back, you can see that I'm still trying to get my hands on a giant rape monster's mouth to make myself a new hat with.
But stuff that rare and hard to get are in the minority.

"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."You ever got caught by that thing without a dung bomb in hand while it sucks you off(dealing massive damage if you don't know how to shake it off)?
And even worse, I thought I had to button mash, but no, I had to repeatedly swing the wii-mote, so the first time I fought it, I lost way too much health.
And it didn't help that it was sunny outside, and I was in a dark cave, that thing is like a rogue. Them and their sneak attacks...
Also, go look up Gigginox in gelbooru. Theres all the proof you need.

"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."Here's something else to expect, if you're getting Tri. There are underwater segments. The controls are overall pretty good, but the underwater controls have a few...quirks. You're much slower underwater, while every monster that can fight in the water is ten times faster than on land. All those assholes do is circle and charge, circle and charge, circle and charge. Do not use a great sword underwater! There's also a few frames during the beginning of your swimming animation where you're locked and can't dodge or attack. It's minor, but it's gotten me in more than one sticky situation, and there is absolutely no reason why it should do this. You also have an oxygen meter, but it's surprisingly forgiving, and there are numerous items you can use to restore and extend it by up to 50%, in addition to Sonic-style air bubbles scattered about the underwater areas.
The only advantage to fighting underwater is the fact that you can dodge vertically after attacking. This helps tremendously, but you should still expect to get hit by a lot of cheap shots, and to get pushed around by currents. I find the whole thing very annoying, and could not be more glad that I will never have to fight lagiacrus again. Oh wait...I need one more horn. DAMMIT.
Re: Status bowgunning
It generally takes about 6 to 8 level 1 rounds of any given status effect to take effect. The shots begin wearing off immediately after they hit, at whatever rate the status effect wears off for that monster, usually about 5-10 points per second. This means the first level 1 shot, which inflicts 50 status points of damage, will generally wear off in about 5-10 seconds depending on the monster. Since monsters usually have status resistances around 250-300, you pretty much need most of the shots to be in rather close succession.
Arena nonwithstanding, the best way to set this up is to put together a bowgun that can load at least 3-4 shots of whatever you want to inflict, so you probably only need to reload once during the infliction process.
All in all, status bowgunning doesn't work great too well in single-player mode. Despite my love for Weiss-chan, I tend to use any variety of melee weapons offline.

Fear the Gothilolions! | Anime listI, for one, enjoy fighting underwater, I hate fighting leviathans on land and always waited for them underwater. Also, I used to fight them with Slash Axe. But that's me, most people hate swimming.
I ain't saying no showy crap like "later buddies" or something lame like that. I'll be back soon, you bozos! You hate fighting leviathans on land? But...on land, they're predictable. Easier. You can pretty much hit them in the ass all you want and they can't touch you. And of course, lagiacrus doesn't have access to his most powerful lightning attacks. But even a weakling like royal ludroth becomes That One Boss as soon as it gets its feet wet. I just...can't stand it when they run around all over the place and won't hold still long enough to get off one shot. That's in no way limited to underwater fights, but the only land monsters that gives me nearly as much trouble are barroth, barioth, and diablos.
Well, I can respect you being able to fight well underwater. Maybe we should pair up the next time I need to take on an underwater monster in the arena...cause for me, and the majority of players, swimming is seriously a Scrappy Mechanic.
In other news, I think False Felyne is the best mask for Cha-Cha, by far. I just got my hands on it, and while it has no slots for abilities, it lets him throw bombs all over the place. I used to outfit Cha-Cha with sleep attack, so I could lay bombs. But with False Felyne, it doesn't matter. Having him toss out large barrel bombs every few seconds For Massive Damage far outweighs anything else he could do. Except dancing. I just killed a rathian in moga woods without any healing items. It died fast, thanks to Felyne!Cha-Cha's bombs.

From the Damage faq:
R. Ludroth |180 /330 /480 /630 /780| 10 Sec | Recovers 5 every 10 Sec
That is, it takes 180 Paralysis damage for the first paralyze, it'll last 10 seconds, and every ten seconds it "heals" 5 points of Paralysis.
What I don't know is how many points of Paralysis each para shot deals, but there's your numbers. (I''ve read that damage forumla over and over and I still can't quite make sense of status damage)
EDIT: Oh, there we go, Lvl.1 status shots deal 25, while Lvl.2 do 50. So you'd have to hit with at least 8 shots within 40 seconds, 9 in 90 seconds, or all 10 within 140 seconds.
That's assuming I'm not overlooking some detail, but basically you've got about 2 minutes to land those shots if you want it to get paralyzed.

Ahaha!! I managed to kill the Barroth solo in the arena!! Even more importantly, I was able to quickly put it to sleep, and then I detonated two large barrel bombs on it's sleeping body.
Unfortunately, it took almost the entire given time in order to kill it...and I died twice...and I used up almost all of my bullets. But if this wasn't an arena quest, I woulda brought much more then just two large barrel bombs.
But still, I'm happy enough to kill a boss with a bowgun...solo! Damn bowgun damage really really blows.
My conclusion is that bowguns are not ranged weapons. They're just low damage lances that gave up their damage and shield for a bit more range and versatility.
That being said...bowgunners are fragile...combined with the fact that you need to fire your gun in close range in order to be any effective, I wonder why they even bothered making separate armor for gunners and bladers when both need to be constantly in melee range anyways.
Oh yeah, how effective is Wyvern Fire anyways? Is it as strong as the switch axe's sword mode's burst attack or something?
"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."

I couldn't say in that case, though range might be a factor. I haven't really used bowguns, only know what I've read about them. How long did it take you to land those 10 huts? I'm not sure how many hits it'd normally take to paralyze.
