So, you've got a picture from The Order Of The Stick. It shows a swordswoman getting ready to administer the deathblow to a grizzled and scarred person on the floor, all whilst screaming something to do with smiting evil.

...See something wrong here?

You're telling me such a character wouldn't wildly attach someone clearly helpless?

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.

Yeah, he doesn't look like he's in great shape.

They both look like they've been fighting each other. "Helpless" isn't the vibe I'm getting.

They've been fighting, but she's still the berserker against what she sees as the villain.

It's hard to represent with a still image, but I think the combination of self-riteous dialogue and aggressive visuals is good enough.

Alternatively, we could look through the example list until we can think of one we'd find a better image of, but I don't think we need to.

Miko is an excellent example, but that's not a very good choice to show it.

If you want to go ahead @ Colonial

Hell, if others want to dig through the examples I might be inclined to help out, though I have more urgent priorities IRL for the next couple of days.

If you can find an even better picture, okay. Heck, there are plenty of Miko strips in Order Of The Stick that might show the trope better.

Didn't it used to be a picture of an actual Knight Templar?

[up] Which was moved to the page for the Knights Templar, since the trope is about an attitude, not the order.

Perhaps an image of a Black Templar on the attack, with the caption being one of their writs of Righteous Hate?

Then the caption does half the work.

I'd upload a few Judge Dredd examples, but they're all pretty text-heavy.

Miko Miyazaki is possibly the best, most easily pictured example of this trope ever, that image is her most Knight Templar moment in the comic, and her line is possible the most perfect definition of the Knight Templar trope ever uttered in any work of any medium. What other image could possibly top it?

Here are some One Piece examples; the first three are all the same scene but just presented differently.

The trope is a villain who believes they are righteous...and are wrong, obviously. There's nothing about the current picture that says the stick figure laying down isn't a bad guy or is somehow helpless.

A Knight Templar doesn't have to be a villain. Characters like Rorschach can be Knight Templars.

What matters is just that a character shows an extreme commitment to a specific ideal that they'll take extraordinary measures to achieve their ends. A character supposedly committed to good (as the dialogue in the current picture demonstrates) vowing to strike death blow on a helpless, obviously defeated adversary in order to punish an "evil-doer" is just the kind of exaggerated, extreme form of justice this type of character is supposed to dispense.

This seems to have been going on for some time. I think we need to vote on a crowner.

Incidentally, if we vote for the alternative that I offered, it would be necessary to find a new image for Mattress-Tag Gag.

See you in the discussion pages.

I went ahead and put up the others on the crowner.

Someone said they had some Judge Dredd examples, but I don't see them anywhere.

Heh; seems like I'm adding a ton of One Piece examples.

Probably because the entire villainous organization is comprised of Knight Templars.
