Amid Amidi is apparently moving to Canada and reporting CB articles directly from Montreal, now covering more Canadian-focused animation news and opinion pieces. CB will remain headquartered in LA and run by the existing journalists.

So I was thinking, what cartoons from this decade will be fondly remembered and seen as influential in later years (yeah, I know we still have exactly 1 year left in the decade, but still)? Obviously Cartoon Network's "big 4" (Regular Show, Gumball, Adventure Time, and Steven Universe) will be. As for Disney, Gravity Falls and Star Vs. The Forces of Evil will still have a fandom, and I sure hope that Ducktales 2017 and Wander Over Yonder will as well. The Loud House could go either way due to what Savino did (and we'll just leave it as that for now). As for Adult cartoons, Rick and Morty, Archer, and Bojack Horsemen, definitely.

I talked about this on the thread for Friendship is Magic and Equstria Girls but it's a problem I have with cartons made for kids today in general, both from shows I've seen and thanks to web reviewers, especially Bobsheaux. they tend not to show consequences for bad behavior or even criminal behavior.

even though that has stopped, it happened for a while in The Lion Guard too with nothing coming of the multiple Nice Job Breaking It, Hero moments, except, hypocritically, the one time with Bunga.

I grew up with stuff like The Powerpuff Girls and 101 Dalmatians: The Series witch taught life lessons like "My Little Pony'' but one of those lessons was the consequences of doing something wrong. and wile I didn't watch it when it first aired, another refreshing contrast with an older cartoon is Sagwa the Chinese Siamese Cat.

and even though I haven't watched those shows, there are a few more recent examples of Karma Houdini on this wiki in the Western Animation and Animated Film section or on the work's main page like Caillou.

but on a different subject, at first glance, changing attitudes about it would be the reason any form of the Corporal Punishment supertrope have disappeared from kids media in the last three to four decades but then shows from this decade like Kaeloo have two examples of Comedic Spanking. is it just North America that doesn't want it in kids' media? this subject could probably be related to the first one but that wasn't my intention.

about the first part of my last post, I went over the main pages for a bunch of other kids shows and found a lot of Karma Houdini entries there too. there's probably more that were never added to the pages.

again, why do kids shows not show consequences for actions anymore and teach kids to just say sorry to get out of trouble?

Your really having trouble accepting that shows are trying to teach kids to say sorry without the fear of punishment?

saying sorry isn't a "Get Out of Jail Free" Card. I already explained why this is a problem in shows like My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and The Lion Guard and even gave examples on the threads for those shows. I also compared it to the original Powerpuff Girls and 101 Dalmatians: The Series as examples of shows that show the consequences to misdeeds.

but how is teaching kids that anything, up to and including actual criminal behavior, can be completely forgiven just by apologizing?

how is that not what modern cartoons are teaching kids? and this is also about my own Catharsis Factor and Willing Suspention Of Disbelief as an adult watching these cartoons.

and to be more specific, why would showing consequences for bad behavior be bad for kids when older shows did it?

Just got back from seeing Missing Link. A fun movie, and while I don't know how high I would rank it against Laika's previous movies, it's one I plan on watching again when it comes out on Blu-Ray or Netflix.

During the trailers, I saw the teaser for the upcoming Addams Family movie. It didn't show much, and I'll reserve judgement for a longer trailer, but it looks like it'll be pretty fun... I guess. It's just a shame that Tim Burton isn't directing it, since I think his style would be perfect for a movie like this (and it would've meant the movie would be stop-motion animated, too).

This is not the greatest signature in the world, no... this is just a tribute.

He was too busy being handed more money from Disney instead.

Is it just me, or is it that the problems youtubers have with Western Animation (Particularly those that are often pointed out by the same youtubers that look at those types of things) are taken far less seriously, or aren't seen as a cold hard fact anymore?

I can't be the only one, because I find it very amusing if thats the case.

Anyone seen this yet? It's a short from James Sugrue, an animator at Titmouse.

It's called Bluehilda!

He's great and I hope this idea gets revived somehow!

Unfortunately, he uploaded it the day Cans Without Labels went live on Youtube so everyone wound up talking about that instead.

[up] Which is odd, because I found about Bluehilda via that recommended thing on YouTube. And probably because I wanted nothing to do with the dirty scumbag that is John K., I didn't even know Cans Without Labels was posted online.

But forget that walking bag of sleaze, apparently the creator of Bluehilda voiced the majority of characters including the main character herself? Totally wasn't expecting that!

Yeah let's get this straight: James is a guy, and yet he can voice FEMALES. That takes skill and talent!! I'm so glad his employer Titmouse was on board to provide resources and funding for his passion project.

Other news: Harris Peet, the original voice of George Liquor, is now on social media.

I see a lot of people complain about Credits Pushback but not many complain about the trend of the Extremely Short Intro Sequence. I miss 1-minute intros. So many great cartoons had long intros which wouldn't fly these days. Can you imagine Justice League or The Powerpuff Girls with shorter intros? It's lucky that Steven Universe has a long intro, though unfortunately it hasn't been changed since season 2.

I miss 1-minute intros and credits, too. But hey, don't we have shows with those kind of stuff pretty much everywhere on the internet? I mean, the past ones. But that doesn't mean we don't have anymore minute-long intros and credits; just watch, for example, an anime. Just a suggestion, no Suspiciously Specific Denial in this sentence.

I also don't like Credits Pushback too.

It takes time and money to make an intro. That from Jackie Chan Adventures took a year to be made. This trend of shorter intros and credits seems to be more prevalent from this decade.

One more question, though: in this thread I can talk about anything related to Western Animation? Or did I understood wrong?

The recent films of The Swan Princess don't even look like they're of the same product as the original. It's such a weird series to Franchise Zombie too, but it must be selling if they keep making films.

It's a shame that Heathcliff: Bad Kitty fell through the water. Heathcliff could use a new cartoon.
