I've recently been replaying Phantom Brave and man but that music is catchy. It's simple little tunes, but they've been running pretty close to non-step in my head.
Strange Wind is probably the first song that will come to my mind if you ask me to name any of NIS songs.
Alright so in terms of Non-Disgaea news

We have a Switch port of Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten (or rather given general trends and Nagi's presence in the key art at the end, the VITA re-release) coming this fall.
My bets on that its next, unless NIS gets bailed out and have the resources to upgrades the graphics of 2/3.

I'm starting to wonder if Disgaea Dimension 2 will ever get any sort of re-release now... there's so much fucking DLC in that game that it's the only game in the series that I haven't played.

Was 4 any good? I've only played 5 and most of 1.
In particular, are the characters and story less bland than 5's, because Killia is really way too boring to hang an entire plot on.
Four was recieved well.
Four was my personal favorite. From what I can tell it's usually considered best or second best Disgaea game.
Haven't played 4, but I did like the cast (personally my faves were D2 followed by 5).
On that note, I'm planning on eventually getting a Switch and 5 (plus 2 and Phantom Brave on Steam and 4 sometime in Winter) and doing a text-based Lets play of it on this thread.
4 was... okay. For me personally it started out okay but pretty much fell apart after chapter 7. It didn't help that they didn't do anything interesting with certain characters, but decided to give them way more screen time then they needed *cough* Fuka *cough* plus the plot itself... well... there are just a lot of things I didn't like about the plot after having time to think about it for a while. Truth be told 4 nearly killed off my love for the series (Thankfully DD 2 and D3 vita reignited it).
I'm trying not to sound mean when I say this, honest, but I'm genuinely surprised to see someone genuinely enjoyed D3. I've always considered it the worst of the series.
What is it you like about it?
I have to say that of 5's DLC, I liked the one for 3 the best. I like the whole good is bad and bad is good angle, and rebelling by doing good deeds.
I thought that the escalating series of "final chapters" in Disgaea 4 was both a fun callback to the weird mash of genres in the original Disgaea, and an amusing burn on the really short story mode in Disgaea 3.
Fuka's DLC story mode, which I guess was included in this, was actually a teeny tiny bit tense for me. I was actually a little invested, which is rare for these games.
So, what new content would NIS have in mind for this new Disgaea 4 re-release, I wonder? Honestly, I think the Vita port would have more or less given it as much as it needs already, at least when it comes to post-game story modes to play through, along with the selection of characters. It's been a relatively short space of time since that game was released compared to the generation of difference between the original re-release of Disgaea 1 and its latest remake (which for some reason wasn't applied to nearly the same level in the PC version, despite having Disgaea 5 released at around the same time before getting a PC version, while the Disgaea 1 Complete, only coming about 2 years afterwards, doesn't), so I think that if they're going to make a "Complete" update for Disgaea 4, they should rather wait a few more years before doing that, and start working on a remake for one of the earlier games instead, while being more consistent about how they release their games across different platforms. Though of course, at this point they don't seem to have many options.
At this point, I'm kind of dreading a new Disgaea being released on the Switch, because it won't be all-in-one complete. Kind of a bummer, you know?
Wasn't expecting 4 to be on Switch.
I wonder if the same will happen to 3, since that one's only ever appeared on PS3 and Vita. Although if that's on the horizon next, they're really gonna have to recast Mao on account of his English VA turning out to be a REALLY bad person.
I still don't intend on getting Disgaea 1 Complete since it replaces the Galactic Demons with the Rifle Demons. The Galactics Demons were absolute tanks, but IIRC Rifle Demons are long-range attackers with poor defense.
@Arha I honestly enjoyed the story for D3 a lot more than I enjoyed the story for D4. I found Mao's story about coming to terms with the guilt of helping get his dad killed to be more interesting than what happened in D4. I also didn't really like how things like Fear and Awe energy were handled. And well as I said before I felt like they could have come up with something different for some characters especially Fuka.
Ah yes I get the feeling that the Fear/Awe energy might be the topic of some ...interesting discourse on the series lore and humanity's role in it.
BTW Are there any characters you hope will appear in the 4 remake? (INB 4 Alliance of Vengeance characters)
Relatedly, how many DLC characters were in 4's base release?

I see. Personally, I found the characters unengaging. I did like some of the ideas such as the heart vault thingy, but since I always look at the characters first in any story D3 didn't really have a chance with me.
For me, its mechanics over characters. I love the cast of D1 to death, but I wont play much past the story. D5 is an endless abyss of playtime for me even though the characters are just OK.
I think Christo is the only D5 character I genuinely liked, but that's kind of cheating given that he's a returning character who basically has the same character arc as Flonne only with a different starting personality.
The original game's cast is very hit or miss for me. The core three characters are interesting, but the rest of the playable characters are a joke. The supporting non playable cast is good though. For me, I'd probably rate D5 as having the best cast overall. ...But the aliens chapter was ridiculous and not in a good way.
D1's characters worked for me. The Prism Rangers were fun. Kurtis was fun. All of the pseudo Flash Gotdon characters were fun. Midboss was fun. Lamington was a great final boss.
The monster characters sucked, though. Good named monster characters wouldn't be a thing until D3.
While D3 wasn't my favorite, I did really like Princess Sapphire and the scene at the end where she's baffled over crying when she's happy. Her whole deal with emotions was great.
