A little tease for Disgaea 6. Also, company president Sohei Niikawa mentioned that the company would like to expand the franchise outside of strategy RPG.
What's that? They're having ASW make a Nippon Ichi fighting game? That certainly isn't something I've dreamed of for the last decade.
Oh, Disgaea 5 is supposed to be coming out for PC this summer? I didn't expect it that soon. Then again, no concrete release date makes that a little questionable for me.
So I bought 5 Complete awhile back but stopped playing after I got frustrated with trying to get Petta. Now I'm only up to episode two/the second world so am I too early to be trying to complete the DLC episodes or should I just keep trying?

I would do DLC around halfway through the story, or after the story (it scales).
If it scales wouldn't doing it later on be worse than doing it early? I'm having a hard time already and I'm still in the early game.
Not really. It scales, but your characters grow faster than the scaling system. Early game means you're running in without a number of the tools the game will give you that turn things in your favor.

Gotcha. So just continue until midgame and then do the DLC. Is there any other advice you guys can provide? This is my first game in the franchise and looking up youtube leveling guides wasn't very helpful.

The trophies for the Disgaea remaster are up.
So I recently acquired a PS Vita, mainly because I really wanted to play Persona 4 Golden and I really didnít have any better options to play it, but Iíd prefer it to be at least a little more than a Persona machine. I had wanted to play the first Disgaea a lot as well, and I know I now have access to the definitive PSP version, but with Disgaea 1 Complete coming out soon for the Switch, that seems to be the better option. I know 2, 3, and 4 also have definitive portable versions, and since Iíve been playing 5, I realize they donít need to be played in order necessarily. Am I right for just waiting for Disgaea 1 Complete, and if so, which of the 2, 3, and 4 rereleases is most worth it?

Since you got a Vita the Vita versions of 3 and 4 are complete, with all dlc and extra arcs and characters added just for the Vita.
The PSP version of 2 is the best version. The PSP version of 1 is good, don't know what they plan on adding to complete. They both play on the Vita as well.
D2 and 5 though you gotta get a PS 3 and 4 respectively.

I already have 5 on the Switch. I have a PS 3 as well, but why do I need that to get the PSP version of 2 on the Vita? Is it one of those games that doesnít appear on the Vita PS Store and you have to transfer for some reason?
Edit: Wait, just realized you meant that direct sequel to D1

Sorry for the double post.
I had some extra Gamestop credit, so I ended up picking up Disgaea 3 for the Vita. Used physical copies of it are cheaper and seem like theyíre harder to find than 4. Iím assuming the lukewarm reviews Iím seeing for it are based more on the relatively meager improvement from the PS 2 games on the then new PS 3 hardware than anything else.
Nah, Disgaea 3 genuinely sucks.
I would guess that part of it sucking might come from the fact that it's the first Disgaea game where damage-increasing factors are factored in before defense.
It's got better gameplay than the two entries before it. The characters and story just aren't very good.
I will agree that the characters were not very special and the story does have issues, yet if the game didn't exist we would have never Disgaea 4. That game's story though is a can of worms that I'm not willing to open right now, especially since we're near the bottom of the page.
I remember little things I liked from it, even if the game isn't as good as the others. I also remember things I hated, like the orcs getting stereotypical Mexican voices - whose idea was that?
I like Princess Sapphire and Almaz, though, and the concept of a goody two-shoes demon who isn't actually all that good is pretty fun, even if Beryl doesn't pull it off all that well.
Oh, and also, Mao claiming that the power of friendship is actually "The power of mysteeeerious cosmos!" might be my favorite joke in the series. "-of Mysterious Cosmos" is just a great general purpose suffix.
Well at least I got a physical copy for cheap. Ideally Iíd like to play the first game, but Iím trying to hold out until Disgaea 1 Complete comes out for Switch. I will certainly download the PSP version of 2 at some point though.
I probably won't ever play Disgaea 1 Complete since it replaces the Galactic Demons with I think the Rifle Demons. The Galactic Demons were absurdly tanky, having a 150% aptitude in both defense and resistance when most monsters don't go past 100% aptitude.
Browsing the PS Store, I noticed that the PSP version of Disgaea 2 doesnít seem like itís as comprehensive as the other portable titles. Namely, they appear to be selling a few bonus characters/scenarios as DLC, when the extra content for all the other portable games is included. Presumably that content still wasnít in the original version of Disgaea 2 since it was a PS 2 game.

I can confirm Disgaea 2 for the PSP didn't have the DLC in the base game. It's the only version of Disgaea 2 with DLC since the PS 2 didn't work on that model.
I never bothered with DLC since Gig was locked to the Japanese version.
Also, in terms of actual game mechanics, Iím kind of hoping I havenít been spoiled too much by the newness of 5 to the point that going back to those early games is going to feel like a significant step down. Does anyone know if 1 Complete is supposed to bring the first game up to the standard of the fifth, at least a little bit compared to the earlier releases?
I for one genuinely like Disgaea 3, IMO its got the best story out of the first 4 Disgaeas.
Careful, I had the exact same idea (but mostly with Disgaea characters) and I almost thought that was what the hyperlinks were saying. But no, it's one of those vague "we're in the middle of it" statements.
That said, I still really hope that happens.
