I don't use Path Bonuses or DLC items, so Dark Flier wasn't really an option for Leo for me. He still turned out quite well as a Sorcerer in my Revelation run, though. Weirdest thing about that: the class appears to have Odin's mannerisms built into it, which feels totally out of character for Leo.

[up] Radiant Dawn's roster is horribly excessive. I'd say it has twice as many characters as it really needs (to the point that some characters are lucky to even get 3 chapters prior to Part 4). Even with the triple-team divide in Part 4, I'd say each team has more than twice the amount of units it can possibly deploy or even have at a point of usability. Two routes dividing up characters would likely do just fine with ~35 units shared equally between them.

Whichever one you don't choose must've gotten some seriously badass generics considering they help storm either Jehanna's or Grado's royal palace. And where were these guys during chapters like Denning's in FE7 or the Dawn Brigade chapters in RD? Maybe the 3-13 Sniper was one of them...

@Hamburger Time: Radiant Dawn kind of already did that - the fresh-faced, seemingly full-of-potential recruits of the Dawn Brigade are almost uniformly worse (even the best of them bately break even, and like half the characters who are in the break even side are still returning characters) than experienced veterans in the Crimean army and the Greil Mercenaries, and even among them the more experienced members are usually better than the lower level characters. For example, Rolf, the obvious growth sniper, doesn't really have any meaningful advantage over Shinon, the more experienced sniper.

[up] That's a good point, yeah.

Though the game's true prepromotes, the third-tier Part 4 Crutch Characters (Stefan, Oliver, Bastian, and Renning) still have the prepromote curse.

I wouldn't say that. Stefan's stats are actually quite comparable to what most Trueblades will have by that point, barring Luk. Volke has incredible stats that are only held back by basically showing up at the last minute, being stuck with knives and having to compete with Sothe, who is forced and has a free deploy slot. Oliver is legit bad, yeah, but he's still not Fiona-tier bad. Bastian mostly suffers from availability problems, though I think his stats are a tad behind (he's got weapon ranks, though). Renning should be better than Geoffrey, although I supposed that's not saying much. Still, he's a no-effort Gold Knight who just drops in and is only really outclassed overall by Titania, Oscar and maybe Kieran. Makalov has huge bases issues (despite some pretty good growths) that really put him at a deficit he really, really has to climb out of. Astrid is... well, total crap and bow-locked. Fiona manages to somehow be worse than Astrid despite having lances.

Oh, and the tier-3-equivalent laguz royals all show and are all, "Sup? How do you like my stats being 8 points higher than yours?" to all the other laguz and most of the beorc.

Except the laguz kings are all essentially prepromotes, and they can do the endgame by themselves. Even bringing one is probably overkill.

Are there any characters in Birthright that really benefit from the Lodestar class?

Not especially.

Azama, maybe, since it would let him use his stupidly high Strength growth sooner?

Yeah, doesn't Azama have like, the highest strength growth of any Birthright character?

Ahh, that's kinda sad. I didn't actually play Before Awakening until recently which is with chapter 25 up next. Oh well, maybe I'll figure something out. Really happy I made my character a Great Lord, though that's a plus.

[up][up]Still Kagero at 65%. Hana has a 55% STR growth.

Azama's STR growth is 50%. Saizo also has a 50% STR growth because why not.

Seriously, Saizo's growth rates are ridiculous for no reason. His setbacks are made up for in his class and an 80% SKL growth/starting with 14 SKL means he pops Lethality more than any unit should.

Forget Lethality, A+ him with Lazlow and give him Sol. He never dies.

[up][up] Not really seeing it. Saizo has a max of 38 Skl, so after a Skl Tonic, he's looking at 10%. With Mess Hall, Rally Skl and pair-up, he might be able to push 13%. That's ~2% less than Awakening and that proc rate is still total ass.

It can technically go higher, but either requires an amount of grinding (statues) such that Saizo could just be reliably set up to kill with raw power; or giving the enemy +30 Hit (Quixotic) when Master Ninja is supposed to be a dodgy class (he'd also need to marry Oboro or Corrin to get it without skill buying).

He can also get it from Kagerou and Orochi. Diviners promote to Basara as well.

Ah, right, I forgot about that. I don't think Orochi is an especially practical choice, but Kagero could probably work. Saizo would have to deal with losing shuriken use and E-Rank hell, though. I'd still rather spend the resources putting him through Mechanist and getting a decent forge so that he can Replicate and just plain overpower the enemy instead of banking on a couple low-percent procs.

So...sneaking a peek into Chapter 6 of Genealogy of the Holy War (haven't officially begun it yet)...

Larcei....LARCEI:

  • Thunder Sword, Light Sword, Brave Sword
  • Shield Ring, Life Ring, Leg Ring

meanwhile, Ulster gets:

  • no cool weapons because his dad was an axebro
  • Pursuit Ring, which is useless for him due to already having Pursuit as a class skill

Delmud:

  • Steel Sword (40 Kills), Armor Cutter, Wing Clipper

Lester:

  • Killer Bow, Silver Bow, Brave Bow

Lana:

  • Recover, Physic, Restore, Silence

Enjoyment and Excitement!

When I said Saizo pops Lethality more than any unit should, I meant why does Saizo get this blessing when he's already good? It's better than what anybody else can do with Lethality, but Saizo also has a good STR growth, can take hits more than the average ninja, and can be counted on to do good damage with a Flame Shuriken. He also has respectable LCK so I can not be paranoid over him getting crit.

Maybe because it's a rather minor advantage that's just a side effect to being an accurate damage dealer? In fact, the high Str and Skl probably even makes Lethality largely superfluous. Anyone who can already 2-3HKO likely isn't going to care too much about having a really unreliable proc.

Speaking of localizations, I'm sure people have probably noticed this already, but for those who haven't, you can see official romanizations for locations in the Fire Emblem Jugdral games by going into the character card edit screen in Fire Emblem Fates. When choosing location, you can see several Jugdral locations as options.

I don't much care for FE 4 and FE 6's retranslations. Seems more that the people working on them just wanted to add bigger and fancier words to the script rather than faithfully translate the game, even to the point of changing freaking character names by themselves to whatever sounds nicer to them, just like with Belf years ago. Still, glitch fixes are glitch fixes, I suppose...
