Coming from the later games, it's kind of weird how in FE 4 the enemy/allied forces tend to spread out their attacks if multiple targets are present rather than just gang up on one or two units. The AI's targeting priority is pretty strange sometimes: I'm finishing up Chapter 4, and Daccar uses his Blizzard tome against Ferry (who can take a few magic hits) instead of say, Sigurd (wut is resistance). Maybe it was because Ferry had slightly lower Avoid between the two, as she (20 Spd) had the Defender Sword equipped (5 Wt) while Sigurd (19 Spd) had the Silver Sword equipped (3 Wt).

Enjoyment and Excitement!Yeah, sounds like 4 just weights Hit chance more heavily.
IS fiddling with the values has caused some weird behaviour in later games too. For instance, in Radiant Dawn, enemies place significant value on the ratio of damage traded. This means that they'll go after anything that can't counterattack first, even if they would do 0 damage. I once had a Micaiah, who, due to some unfortunate RNG with me missing attacks and the low deployment slots for the swamp chapter giving me few back-up options, was in danger of being one-rounded by the enemy via doubling. However, Micaiah would nearly one-shot him before she possibly went down (she had a chance to dodge, though it was really poor... pretty sure the enemy had over 80 listed). This caused him to run off and attack the other unit by her (I want to say it was a mediocre Eddy with a Wind Edge, but I'm not entirely sure), who would not die in one combat, but also did much less counterattack damage.
Contrast this to Awakening's, which is specifically programmed to look for targets where a dog-pile will kill them. However, this system also puts very little weight on Hit and pretty much none on damage ratio. This means that enemy units don't give a crap about their own survivability and, unless the player unit's Avoid gets ridiculously stupid (as in, causing less than 20 listed), the enemy units will fixate on throwing around big damage hits (even if the odds of landing them are awful). This is why squishies will have a hard time of things if left in range of the enemy. It's also why Vaike and Virion make excellent decoys. Vaike because various pair-ups let him sponge up taking basically any kind of his, while his HP, Def and Res combo are just perfect for making just about any enemy want to kill him. Virion shouldn't be in enemy range, but unpaired, he's doubled by everything and so squishy that everyone wants to murder him. For enemies who don't have targets, Virion can skirt enemy ranges and lead them on a merry chase.
Finally, Conquest's and, to a lesser extent, Revelation's, seems to do a combination of Radiant Dawn and Awakening (Birthright's felt a lot like Awakening's). Enemies value their lives a bit more and will again generally prefer enemies who can't counterattack. However, there are still cases where the enemy will think it's worth trading big damage for big damage. They will also consider dog-piling a unit, but not all the time. I think that may be them valuing Hit a fair bit more than Awakening's guys did. Conquest's variation also added the part where if they will ignore units who they do 0 damage to and can't debuff in a significant way. This last attribute ends up being annoying in normal play, but also incredibly exploitable. A juggernaut with enough Def and Res deployed on its own will be completely ignored by most enemies on the map. That's right: a unit can be so tough that the enemy just throws up its hands and lets it do whatever it pleases (incidentally, this exploit is how certain builds can be made to solo Lunatic Conquest's Endgame).

I'm not sure if my strategy is bad, or I'm just need to re-grind again or what, but now I keep trying to follow the advice about Vantage and Vengeance, but I keep getting my VV users killed.
Tell me, if you could have Vengeance, Vantage, and Galeforce, or the first two and Luna, which would you go with?
One Strip! One Strip!Certain builds do want to stack more than one, but it's generally gonna be something like running Luna + Aether, or Luna + Ignis, not Luna + Vengeance. Luna + Vengeance with the specific Apotheosis setup means Luna has a chance to make the unit do less damage.
The only advice I can really give is that you have to do the math. Be absolutely certain you will secure the kill. Doing otherwise will very likely get your unit killed.
Anyway, starting Loony Plus soon
.
Good. Once I noticed both worked off skill, I got rid of Luna on the person who had it with Vantage and Vengeance. It did let me give that person Galeforce though, which is useful when attacking.
Anyway, it's been difficult to be honest. I keep making the wrong moves and getting people killed, and really early too. I'm gonna figure this out....somehow.
One Strip! One Strip!...Pokes around...
Still an FE-newbie. I have only played Awakening and Fates/Conquest so far. I just got through Conquest and am planning on trading/borrowing games with a friend who has Birthright. I tend to be more interested in story and character elements than in the technical aspects of the game and I guess I'm sort of glad that I'm apparently not the only one who found Conquest's plot a bit... confusing?
On one hand, I love how Corrin / The Avatar really wants to not kill anyone as much as possible.... I felt like I was playing Vash the Stampede (big Trigun fan here), but at the same time... every time you conquer a place, the bad people come along and kill the wounded and stuff! Gaaaah! I want to try the other paths, to see if they're any better, because, overall, between the two FE games I've played, I liked Awakening a lot better. The story made more sense to me and I liked being able to grind on Risen. I don't like the castle Invasions very much. Just the structure of them annoys me... I can never seem to get characters I want to try to pair up close enough together before the fight to get them going...
At least I got to marry Odin Dark. I enjoyed being the wife of Odin/Owain.
....
Oh, I recently looked up the Fanfic Recs page for Fire Emblem. Thank you to the person who decided that silly little thing I wrote about the poster in Frederick and Chrom's C-support was worth recommending (and not mentioning that I never corrected the misspelling of Frederick's name in it).

In which I attempt to be a writer. You could trade for Birthright, or you could buy it as a download. The latter costs money, but lets you keep your old data and there's connectivity bonuses (Like the Record Hall being shared between files, and receiving some Dragon Herbs and Dread Scrolls in both games).
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I'm saying I have a real life (met online, but found out she lives near me and we hang when when can) friend who has Birthright and we were going to do a game-trade / borrow each other's games. In fact, she's the reason why I got into FE to begin with because she let me borrow her copy of Awakening (before I got my own after falling in love with the game). So... I wound up requesting Conquest as a birthday gift from my man specifically so I could play the opposite-game of my friend and we could trade and trade-back.
It's kind of like how when a specific Pokemon-fan relation of mine gets a specific Pokemon-game, I get the opposite (Y to his X) for pokemon-trading purposes. This might be Nintendo intends some of their titles... if you can find friends to trade stuff with.
In which I attempt to be a writer.Sadly that's not really the case with Fates :/ you get quite a bit of bonus content by having all three games on one system.
By trading with your friend you're losing out on a batch of items, castle customization options, and three extra save files.
Still, it's not like it'll horribly impact your experience or anything.
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeOut of curiosity, are there any Fire Emblem headcanons across the series you have/have seen that you particularly like? I stumbled across a few earlier, such as Say'ri having a son named Yen'fay one day, and that the 12 deadlords in the final chapter of FE 4 are the characters from Sigurd's army earlier in the game. Are there any that stand out to you?
"Can't make an omelette without breaking some children." -BurI don't know if it truly counts as a headcanon, since I'm not, to use a pun, "married" to it and I'm not sure anyone shares it...
...but of late, I've kind of gotten to like the idea that Libra is asexual. (I mean, he's a man... who looks like a lady, but as far as doing anything physical with anybody, he's kind of like me - "meh.") I do marry him to people, but I kind of like the idea that he takes some convincing to make the kid-from-the-future. This came about when on one of my files, I decided to marry him to Nowi (despite the "pedo priest" vibes with...Nowi) because I thought their supports were sweet and got an undone fanfiction idea in my head that involved Nowi "wanting to make an egg" to continue her species while Libra is unsure of the whole thing and just wants to be her companion, not wanting to "dirty" such an innocent little dragon. Add to that his in-supports "does not like being touched" and I definitely see him as the guy who will probably only "make the kid" with anyone only once, preferring the other aspects of companionship. I wanted to have my avatar marry Libra my my latest playthrough... considering my own asexuality (yet desire to have Morgan in my avatar'slife) I think this headcanon works out pretty well.
In which I attempt to be a writer.Hm, I see what you mean.
I also have a headcanon that Miriel and/or Laurent have Asperger's Syndrome. I've seen people joke about it, but I think it's definitely possible.
The fact that I myself have Asperger's may be why I like this headcanon so much. It makes me feel a kinship with Miriel and her son.
I'm looking into save file editing lately. Nothing for cheating online, though.
It annoys me not having certain characters on my Revelation file (Yukimura, Izana, Scarlet, and Rhajat because Hayato's a bachelor-for-life), and I find the logbook versions annoying, so I've been checking out how to make them legitimate units (showing up in the castle, having level-up quotes and voice clips, ect). Also might give myself 99 of the items that can only be obtained from DLC that forces you to use different units, if only because those are a pain to grind unlike Vanguard Brands or Sighting Lenses.
I need Homebrew to do this, though, so I'll have to look into that. My 3DS is the latest firmware so I don't know what's still available.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!

The next Lord should be something like the Master of Arms, but being able to use all three melee weapons while unpromoted. And have a Prf weapon for all three of those proficiencies. Then trade out Veteran/Nobility for Discipline. This way, the Lord design would be to quickly build a WEXP advantage instead of EXP and skill advantage. This would still hold an advantage for reclassing too, as said Lord wouldn't ever be stuck in E-Rank Hell for long.
Man, thinking about it actually makes me excited, so I'ma spitball a skill list:
The unpromoted version of the class would caps Swords Lances and Axes at B. Promoted would cap them at A. This means that at level 15, the character can potentially use S-Rank weapons from all three categories.
