yeah, let's try to change our kingdom from within by following my deranged father's orders while having his equally insane and bloodthirsty goons on my back at all times, culminating in invading another kingdom and killing their people so we can put him on their special magic throne that will expose him as a slime monster so we can kill him and make things better for everyone
sound logic, huh?

Enjoyment and Excitement!I blame Azura. She broke their "get out of jail free" card at the wrong time for no good reason.

To be fair, with Garon breathing down their necks, there really isn't much the Avatar can do other than follow orders. And given how Garon is paying more attention to the Avatar, bringing up the subject of Valla probably wouldn't be a good idea, since while Anankos seems to want the Avatar alive, he could hardly care less if the Nohrian siblings had their heads put on a pike. Staying in Valla probably isn't a good idea either, given how Anankos is more powerful there and will probably make killing Azura his highest priority.
Besides, if Conquest didn't have you invade Hoshido, you'd have people complaining about how they don't get to kill Hoshidans. So for all those complaining about the later aspects of the plot: #BlameHoshidoHaters
Speaking of Anankos, I found it really interesting that, in Heirs of Fate 6, he mentions that he didn't kill the Avatar, even saying something along the lines of "That child is all I have left." I'll admit, I really liked that line since it emphasized Anankos's tragic situation of not being able to be a father to his child, yet presumably some bit of sanity still left in him compels him to keep them alive. Though I do wonder who he decided to be his vessel in that particular universe, or if he decided he didn't need one due to already conquering several universes.
"I squirm, I struggle, ergo I am. Faced with death, I am finally, truly alive."@Aflac Conquest may have a lot of gimmicks, but I never felt like it ruined my enjoyment or desire to keep playing. I don't really have that much of a problem with Ch. 20, but I really like Ch. 10-13, Ch. 15, Ch. 16, Ch.18. I would mention some of the lategame chapters, but you're not there yet.
I've certainly enjoyed its maps over Binding Blade, Blazing Sword, Sacred Stones, the bit of Shadow Dragon I have played, and Awakening.

And then the Decon-Recon Switch gets flipped and Gen 2 brings it on home. It's a pretty big omission to consider either one without the other.
I vastly preferred Conquest to Revelations in almost every way except lacking some of the children. The Avatar seemed even more stupid than in Conquest, more obnoxiously naive, and just...worse. Not to mention it felt like nothing in Revelations made sense.
I haven't played any of the DL Cs, so maybe that's why.

"Can't make an omelette without breaking some children." -BurHeirs has a lot of content that really should've been in at least Revelation.

Peri's support with Felicia was... interesting. The unrepentant servant slayer and the uncoordinated maid made for some predictable interactions, so I guess the reason I was so amused was simply because both of them are fun characters on their own.
I hope that the next Fire Emblem game also gives us another lobster-armored individual. Hopefully wielding a lance, since we've already got one with an axe and one with a sword.
