I never had trouble with the "race" part of it. The layout of the map itself is the hard part. When you breach the wall on the one side, you've got two mages who can pounce right on top of you, and the units you send through the main entrance also end up in a multi-way killzone. Those first few turns after you make contact are what make or break that chapter, not the Berserker offing Forrest.
That and Bandit Boss Gazak with his 1-2 Silver Star Axe and 44 base hit, on a throne with all the bonuses that accrues.

That kill zone is part of the race, though. If the party isn't in a rush, it doesn't need to engage that many enemies at once. This is especially important in late-game Lunatic where the Berserkers are running around with something stupid like 53-54 Attack and ~20 Crit, and backed up by 46-Attack Sorcs. This puts even tanky units at risk of being 2-shot and then they usually have to use Bronze/Brass in order to not give the Berserkers significant listed Crit. With the race condition out, the design of the map allows almost every enemy to be safely dispatched through kiting.

Of note is the extreme luck both ways. The run sapped all my Elixir uses early on, then brought out the nasty C6 and C7 combo to finish me off. However, I also got 28 consecutive HP ups, which has something like a 0.19% chance of happening. This let me out-tank a lot of things I probably shouldn't have. Also, Chrom scored a 2% crit on Grima, because why not? Links below:

FE: New Mystery Only Feet 7PM PT Sun, Mon, Fri; Umamusume Haru Arima 7PM PT Wed, Thurs: http://www.twitch.tv/kuroitsubasatenshiRevs chapter 21 had a bit of a challenge. I've found that any wide-open map (with no flight-stopping walls) where fliers behave aggressively can get difficult, especially since the move trigger for one group of them wasn't my people getting in range, but me leaving an enemy badly wounded triggering stave-wielding Falcoknights who then nearly killed Kaze.
Hinoka and Camilla's C support is amusing. "Why are you stabbing that cloth repeatedly, Camilla?" "It's called sewing."
Finally started playing Genealogy of the Holy War this morning. I've put it off for way too long: I've had the game for almost a year but I'm just now coming around to actually playing it for real (I've dabbled in a few leftover saves someone left on the cartridge, but I'm starting totally fresh today).
Also, to celebrate my first time starting Genealogy of the Holy War, my copy of the Fire Emblem Treasure book came in the mail today! It's a world guide/databook on Genealogy of the Holy War, released in 1999. Contains background information on the many kingdoms of Jugdral, character info/stats, important events and histories, plus several interviews with Shouzou Kaga.

Enjoyment and Excitement!Birthright Chapter 3: Journey Begins
Here, the game teaches me how to have two units on a single space. I feel like knowing when to Pair Up versus when to just have units next to each other will take some getting used to.
Gunter tells me the fort with the paired up enemies is impassible, and then Hans gives us a demonstration. Nice going, Leeroy Jenkins.
Then, in the post-fight cutscene, something I got spoiled by Super Smash Bros. on (if you can call anything happening this early in the game a spoiler). Then a brief trip to the Astral Plane. I'm guessing this is where I'll be building "My Castle" once I get far enough. That's a feature I look forward to playing around with.
Hans just demonstrates what happens when you both have awful stats and try to fight against a Fort while also having WTD.

The lack of subtlety does, however, serve as a smokescreen to the fact that it's really not Nohr you have to worry about.
Doing more blind DLC
tonight.

There's also Spy Shuriken/Yumi shenanigans. When I did it, I had Kaze attack with Lightning Leo as an Attack Stance partner. Between Poison Strike and Sing from Azura, I had enough damage output to kill the Zerker when he was level 16. Alternatively, there's Lunging with those weapons, but I imagine it would take more to set that up.
