So...has there ever been any cut scene or single minor event in a story that managed to hilariously cut an entire fandom in half as well as this game's "Ridley making Samus act like a girl" cutscene?

The bad guy in Final Fantasy 7 stabbing something? I don't know much about that game. But a stabbing scene in that game was apparantly famous and well known.

You got some dirt on you. Here's some more!

"So...has there ever been any cut scene or single minor event in a story that managed to hilariously cut an entire fandom in half as well as this game's "Ridley making Samus act like a girl" cutscene?"

  1. It's more like "Ridley making Samus act like a wuss", just to avoid the appearance of sexism.
  2. A single cut scene? I guess we'll have to check the video game section of Broken Base.

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.

The laughing scene in Final Fantasy X comes to mind.

Anyways, I finally found some Metroid/Sonic fanart. Should I post it here or create an all-purpose fanart/fancrafts/cosplay/fanartcosplay/rule34/whatever thread?

Don't post it here? Alright, making the rule34 thread.

This proposition was inspired by this post. And yes, I was joking about the rule34 bit.

Sorry for the double post, but...

So...has there ever been any cut scene or single minor event in a story that managed to hilariously cut an entire fandom in half as well as this game's "Ridley making Samus act like a girl" cutscene?

The Dead Sea event in Chrono Cross comes to mind.

Fixed. evil grin Not sure if it's a "minor event" since I haven't played it, but it definitely fits the "cuts an entire fandom in half as well as this game's "Ridley making Samus act like a girl" part.

Huh, despite my terrible loathing of Chrono Cross, you think I'd have thought of that :)

No, Ridley made Samus act like a wuss. The fact that such a scene is stated to be how girls act just supports the arguments that this game is sexist.

Where is that stated? Also, what were you responding to?

Okay, the wording of "Ridley making Samus act like a girl" implies that, which is where a lot of the "This game is sexist" arguments come from.

Are you calling Signed sexist, or just pointing out a poorly phrased sentence?

Okay, this time it was poorly phrased, but other times I have seen similar comments to justify that scene, which again, just added fuel to the sexism accusations.

...I think I can sort of see where this might be going...but since not that many people come in anymore...I might be wrong...but...

"I like where this is going."

Wuss, girl, whatever, you know what I'm talking about anyways. A single cutscene slicing an entire fandom in half. And then people making up excuses to hate the director.

Well I don't hate him. I say Malstrom doesn't either (since he just doesn't like his eccentricities, not the guy as a person).

As for those that do... I won't speak for them, so I'll just leave it there.

I'll never understand how the game is "sexist".

Ridley appears, Samus goes into BSOD Mode due to thinking she was finally free of him, Anthony tries to save her and gets killed, Samus snaps out of it and completeley wrecks Ridley's sorry hide with Plasma Beams and Super Missiles.

It's probably his voice and the way he talks that bugs me.

Funny thing is, I didn't notice he was black until much later...which made hating him on the internet in western sites much harder.

I wonder is calling a girl Princess considered sexist...

It's not that scene alone that made the accusations of sexism. It was the addition of traits that seemed to try to make her both more feminine, but not as strong.

That is how some saw this characterization.

Dude, she still managed to beat Ridley's ass. She's still a one man army. She's more capable than her [[Halo male rip-off/clone]].

I believe that she's plenty strong enough already. No need to make her even more invincible.

People loved her even when she was saved by PIKACHU!

And I still fail to see what's so evil about giving some feminine traits to a female character.
