The brands I’d recommend you shop for optics are Aimpoint, Vortex, Trijicon, and maybe Sig Sauer. Go as high as you can afford for the flavor of glass you want. Bushnell is okay, but their QC can be hit or miss.
Also, if you’re primarily shooting through an optic I’d recommend flip irons rather than fixed.

Wish I can put it on an airsoft-related thread, but a guy in Singapore who DIYed his own air gun was arrested since doing such a thing is not allowed.
Just got back from the gunsmith (since I don't have the tools or all the know-how) with my AR-556 having a brand sparkling new Midwest Industries 15 inch M-LOK handguard, a Magpul MVG foregrip and a new set of flip-up Magpul MBUS Pro Gen 2 iron sights.
It now looks and handles a lot like a proper tacticool rifle and maybe I can hit something with it in broad daylight this time!
I get the feeling I'm probably gonna need to check zero on the irons and most likely just get a feel for it. I figured out the iron sights pretty good, the rear has a toggle between a narrow 3 mm pinhole and a wide 5(?) mm A1 style aperture which has excellent visibility. The front sight adjusts for elevation with a dial instead of needing any tools. (That was a dealbreaker for me for many types looking it up.) I presently have it set all the way elevated so the gun aims very flat, though I might have it backwards and I have it set for like 3000 meter moon shooting, I'll figure it out.
Either way I'm getting quite happy with this gun. Maybe in a week or two I'll find some accursed ammo somewheres and be able to go blasting something!
No matter how durable something is, no matter how few moving parts it has, no matter how clear the instructions, you can always count on some enlisted finding a way to break it or fuck it up somehow.
Never underestimate a bored 19 year old’s ability to damage government property.
They should have sent a poet. We're having a massive drama involving the new service rifle, the MSBS. Apparently, supposedly, the QC went to shit in the recent years, meaning the production models rust, the plastics crack, and gas regulators tend to fall off because they're improperly secured. And the factory doesn't give a shit and refuses to fix those things.
Now, to be entirely honest, I don't consider it improbable, as the current ruling party tends to use upper management positions in state-owned companies as rewards for loyal apparatchik idiots, and we already had a couple of scandals involving those in the arms industry. I think the problem will go away along with the party-appointed cadres.

My Mosin-Nagant stripper clips arrived! I ordered 10 of them (and may do more come to think of it) and loaded 50 rounds of 7.62x54R into them. It was surprisingly easy and feeding a Mosin via stripper clips is phenomenally fast and easy compared to loose rounds I've been used to.
Da, rifle is very very fine comrade!
EDIT:
Also I noticed something very interesting. My ammo bandoliers hold these clips and ammunition perfectly, they hold 3 clips per pouch.

RE8 has shown me this weird looking pistol exists.

It's the one on the top. I like how the extended slide cover for the stock makes it the silhouette hit differently.

I tried to walk like an Egyptian and now I need to see a Cairo practor....

The type of shooting I intend for this one is mostly short to medium range, we're talking usually less than 100 meters but upwards of 200. I don't have much if any need for like 400+ meter precision. The option to shoot long range is nice but as a result I'm unlikely to go for magnified optics.
As far as budget is concerned, I'm willing to spend up to roughly what I paid for the AR in total (about $1300) though maybe not all at once. I know I can probably achieve what I'm looking for for maybe half that price range or less. (Not every part I've seen in 100+ bucks.)
