This is a thread for people who will not be or have not been on the site for a while, whether due to real life or to resist an internet addiction, the latter of which is encouraged within reason. Also, talk about the benefits/whatever of taking a day or a weekend off, or things to do when not online. TV Tropes ruining your life is nothing to be proud of.
Generally, expect the following from this thread:
- People announcing their departure or return.
- Moderators announcing a significant forum ban — not trolls or vandals, but someone people will notice and miss.
- Inquiries about an absent troper.
- Responses to inquiries about an absent troper.

I always found the beginning of a semester to be the lightest workload (except finals in lower level classes). The first week is all orientation stuff.
Fresh-eyed movie blogI return from Montreal!
I... drank. A lot.
The manifestation on August 22nd was incredible, and thanks to the general Canadian habit of "Hi, I don't know you, but I'm [x] and I'm here for [y]," I met a ton of people and had an amazing time.
As to student protests being violent; there was only one single (unconfirmed) arrest, out of an estimated (by best estimates) 50 000 people marching. Some news sources claimed 12 000; CLASSE itself claimed 100 000+. Less state-biased news sources cited figures in the middle, tending towards 50 000. So, yeah, there were a ton of people in the streets. Peacefully.
A
pair
of pictures from the event. More to come when I upload more off my phone. Probably tomorrow. (The latter picture's sign says "I vote for love," and was one of many different signs like it. There were organisations present at the march's start site handing out material encouraging people to get out and vote; signs like that among them. Most of them had something like "I vote for my country," "I vote for education," "I vote against corruption" or other things along those lines.)
More to come in a bigger post somewhere else.
But yeah. I'm back. I'm alive.

And then Malph returned!
Yeah, I moved and didn't have internet access for a bit. I didn't bother to mention it because I didn't think I'd be missed (because I didn't think I'd be gone 17 days).
Oh well, I'm back now.
Let the age of darkness begin!
