This is a thread for people who will not be or have not been on the site for a while, whether due to real life or to resist an internet addiction, the latter of which is encouraged within reason. Also, talk about the benefits/whatever of taking a day or a weekend off, or things to do when not online. TV Tropes ruining your life is nothing to be proud of.
Generally, expect the following from this thread:
- People announcing their departure or return.
- Moderators announcing a significant forum ban — not trolls or vandals, but someone people will notice and miss.
- Inquiries about an absent troper.
- Responses to inquiries about an absent troper.

See ths
.
We don't care what you say about TVT on other sites.
TE was given a position of power and responsibility, which comes with the vote and trust of the staff. Going on about how much he hated that job in a place which has caused us multiple problems in the past, is not saying something bad about the site. It's a blatant dismissal of our trust.
It would be like me going over there and saying how much I hate moderating here for whatever reason.

"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerHi. This is Triple Elation. I hope I get at least one post to publicly have my say about all of this before disappearing into the endless aether where banned people go.
I never posted on SA while being a panel member; I never divulged any private information that I know of, and if I unknowingly did, I apologize; and I never belonged in the "LOL BURN TV TROPES BURN" camp, and still don't, in spite of everything that went down.
I also never intended my hop to SA to come across as an "in your face" sort of thing, but given the bitter history between the two forums, not seeing this coming was probably a lack of foresight on my part.
@Tomu:
I take from this that you are the one who sent me the mystery PM which I was never able to read. Well, as you can gather from the above sentence, I was never able to read it. Maybe if I had gotten it in time, things would have turned out differently.
Oh that's good. ≧◡≦ Why the confusion then? <_<
I vowed, and so did you: Beyond this wall- we would make it through.I try, I really try, but I can't think of any way, this could possibly be justified.

People aren't as awful as the internet makes them out to be.To answer a question on a previous page, if you want to appeal a ban on someone else's behalf, you can PM any of the mods and we'll pass it on to the place we discuss those things. You won't be banned for appealing a ban unless you actually break site rules in the process.
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.@Kay and others wondering why on-topic and appropriate posts got Troll Post thumped:
The Skullfucker tool is there for situations where many posts by a single user in a single thread are an issue. Instead of thumping each post one at a time, we can use the Skullfucker and have all posts by that troper in that thread disappear as Troll Posts.
In flame explosions like this one, it makes sense to do this to all tropers who have multiple problematic posts in the middle of that flamefest.
So your on-topic posts weren't hand-picked for deletion, but were destroyed as part of clearing a whole bunch of drama with a couple of clicks.
Usually a Skullfuck is immediately followed with a ban, but not always. So that's why you can post but your older posts are Troll Posts.
If you want us to stop using the Skullfuck tool in flamefests, you have to be prepared to have us lock a thread and go through possibly dozens of pages and possibly end up with multiple users with a long list of new Thump messages in their inbox, as well as one or more mods wasting lots of time going through the whole mess. Since no one wants that to happen every time a thread ignites, we have the Skullfuck tool to get the problematic posts out really quickly. Collateral thumps of innocent posts are the price we pay, and that's that.
Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur.Of course, I didn't take his arrogant babbling seriously, but still I find it rather annoying. His attempts at being reasonable were little more than wasted energy. All in all, I don't like him as much as I did before (when he was actually one of my favorite people here).
Then again, the last thing could be said about me. Of course, I'm not remotely as good at discussing as he is, but still I participate a bit (like in my last few posts here), despite having no hope anymore.

People aren't as awful as the internet makes them out to be.Yep.
This thread went further and further south, no one stopping it, until fast eddie stepped in, noticed that the thread was nearing the south pole, and just troll post crushed everything.
Go play Kentucky Route Zero. Now.@Best Of
Ah, okay. Thanks for the info.
It's good that Cute and X aren't banned anymore (or weren't banned in the first place). And I'll miss Juan and Whale.
As for that whole Triple Elation thing... I have no clue about all of that and who to believe (or rather, no idea if people are misinformed or are downplaying or overreacting or anything...), really. So I'm going to stay out of this in case it gets talked about again.

Yeah, I am very glad I was gone.
In fact, I wish this thread was locked altogether and restarted. We've done it for other mega threads.
I mean, I enjoyed juan's witty banter, and liked inane a lot. Inane was one of my friends from the LGBT thread; in fact, inane was my only conservative friend from that thread. But you have to know when to stand aside, when to keep fighting, and when to jump ship.

Go play Kentucky Route Zero. Now.I think there's a service issue at work here. There seems to be a popular demand for a thread on who was banned and why, which is explicitly forbidden, so that conversation ends up in the nearest permissible place.
And yes, I realise I'm implicitly comparing derailing a topic to internet piracy. :P

ERROR: The current state of the world is unacceptable. Save anyway? YES/NOThe difference, of course, is that this is a much smaller place than "the Internet", with — I am glad to say — a much greater overall sense of responsibility to the community, and as such, issues of that nature tend to get reported rather than ignored.
Several of us mods also watch this thread so we can step in as needed, although I will admit that when it gets going quickly I will skip over some pages, as long as I know someone else on the staff was paying attention.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Perhaps if we restarted the thread to avoid confusion, and added specific rules to the OP about this being about people who are leaving, not people who are banned?
Go play Kentucky Route Zero. Now.
