This is a thread for people who will not be or have not been on the site for a while, whether due to real life or to resist an internet addiction, the latter of which is encouraged within reason. Also, talk about the benefits/whatever of taking a day or a weekend off, or things to do when not online. TV Tropes ruining your life is nothing to be proud of.

Generally, expect the following from this thread:

  1. People announcing their departure or return.
  2. Moderators announcing a significant forum ban — not trolls or vandals, but someone people will notice and miss.
  3. Inquiries about an absent troper.
  4. Responses to inquiries about an absent troper.

I'm back, sort of.

I've been debating coming back to Trope-land for a bit. As I've let my World Of Warcraft sub expire, I no longer have something that completely consumes all my free time (which was the reason I stopped coming here at first), and would love to talk to people about books and games and such again. However, I was really bad at staying out of the pointless debates that dominated the right-hand side of the forum when I was here last 10 months ago. Even though I was pretty good at remaining calm, I was pretty bad at not being bothered by the mostly political arguments.

Either way, I'll be back to lurking here a bit and maybe posting sometimes? I don't know.

Anyway, sup. How are you guys today?

I was wondering where you'd gone. Welcome back. And there's much fewer of those such arguments, what with IJBM gone.

Well, if it helps, IJBM was nuked, so I guess there aren't as many pointless debates over here.

Or! I only keep to the megathreads and thus don't see them. Pick one.

I'm pretty sure they've mostly moved on to other subforums, though. Not to say we don't still have stupid discussions and shit, though.

Anyway! I've been wondering where you've gone and I'm glad you're maybe back.

Yeah, I noticed that. It's probably a good thing, though. I couldn't take more [content redacted] discussions with [content redacted] and people just [content redacted], you know?

And I'm sorry I didn't make a big deal of leaving, it wasn't exactly planned. I got back into World Of Warcraft and then... Well, you know how these things are. Wrath was pretty awful and I still found ways to spend all my time in that game. As much as I like the current expansion, though, I'd rather just work through my backlog of single player games and books, while waiting for an MMO to come out that actually attempts to sweep me off my feet, rather than just getting a "Well, it's better than I expected".

And I do remember you, Spain Sun. :P

...that was odd...

It's not exactly naive. And it can happen. But it's tough. And definetly worthwhile.

Let's see... riding Amtrak is much more comfortable than taking a plane, due to the lack of takeoff/landing and stuff like that; the stuff they serve in the dining cart is overpriced and undergood so I made sure to bring something on the trip back; Seattle is a much, much cooler city than Portland is and I'm quite jealous; my brother and I wandered all over the place going to various bars and vegan restaurants, of which there are many; I had my bag stolen in a bar in Belltown, but thankfully it didn't have my ID, phone, or cash; the city has hills all over the place, which as someone who lives in a relatively flat part of Portland, I'm unused to; as far as crazy touristy stuff is concerned, I didn't go up the Space Needle, but I did go to Pike Place Market, as well as Archie McPhee; lakeside parks are nifty-cool; Volunteer Park has a conservatory and a defunct water tower that people can walk up and see the city, which were also nifty-cool; the central library of Seattle is a hideous abomination, inside and out; the buses appear to have even more issues with being on time than Tri-Met's, though they do have colorful transfers, and their bike racks hold three instead of two bikes; Trolleybuses! Stretchybuses! Stretchy trolleybuses! A bus tunnel downtown that also has a light rail/subway thingy that we didn't get to ride, since it doesn't run in the parts of town we went to! A monorail that we didn't have enough time to ride!; since the return ticket was in the lost bag, we had to pay for a replacement, even though I printed out the confirmation email saying that I paid for it already, and arrrgh

I think I will just stick to my writing thread a for a little while, just a few posts allowed outside. I've had to dig some emotional things out of the holes I buried them in lately in order to start actually making them better, and while that's a very good thing, it also puts me a little bit on edge for now. It will get much better, but for the moment, break time.
