^^ honestly, there's really not much basis for Hatate/Momiji, like, at all. She was fangirling about Momiji's abilities as a lookout.

Though there may be some basis for an Aya/Momiji ship.

There's always been basis for Aya/Momiji based on her previous interpretation where she was loyal and puppy-like, and that's why I shipped it hardcore.

Hatate will probably be mainly shipped with Aya, as her position as The Rival makes it easy. She doesn't have any real association with Momiji, and she's hard enough to unlock that her comments aren't likely to be well known, so I wouldn't expect much there. We can probably expect the odd threesome, though.

You have to unlock her? Really? I'm not aware of Zun ever making you unlock a character before, just levels.

The Phantasmagoria games. You start with about a third of the cast.

Come to think of it, I think you have to unlock people in the fighting games, but I'm not sure those count.

Aya/Hatate/Momiji OT3! *adds it to personal list of ships*

That's not new. I was discussing that love triangle love two-perpendicular-lines already with Sparky.

Hatate -> Momiji -> Aya <- Aya

The thing that makes me laugh about that is I have a love triangle with that exact same setup in an old story I was writing.

Hatate -> Momiji -> Aya <- Aya

I am fairly certain the only person Aya has never been able to find dirty on is herself. She is the only person worthy of herself.

If we stick to canon, we might be able to do Aya and Momiji having a violent, double tsundere relationship with Hatate harbouring a crush on Aya. Though fanon seems to be drifting towards a Momiji->Aya<-Hatate triangle.

Does that mean that Momiji bites?

And yes, I still disagree with Aya's remarks about Nitori, as they do not reconcile with what we already know of her since Mountain of Faith. I guess she hasn't had the chance to dig up some embarassing secrets (or toys!) about the little shy kappa, and is relying entirely on the established stereotype.

Aya makes a comment about getting bitten, so it would seem so.

Bites in more ways than one, huh.

Write-up:
Hatate, the new girl! She uses her "spirit photography" to write her articles, so her newspaper was never very popular, because it only covers things that are already known, unlike Aya's. She decides to investigate on what makes Aya so successful, with her fresh and original material. Turns out that the reason is that Aya doesn't so much report on events as she causes them.

What can be concluded from what we know about her? Her speech is translated as a Valley Girl accent. At the same time, she appears to be thoughtful and intelligent. How does she react to the revelation of Aya's secret? Does she compromise her journalist's integrity, if she even has one and her honesty isn't just caused by her inability to get fresh material? What does she think about Aya? What does Aya think about her?

It's spellcard-reading time!

Sorry for making you wait with Suwako, but we already had Aya and Momiji, and Hatate is all the rage now and we've already pretty much started discussing her, so this opportunity is just too perfect to pass up.

Also, to make up for Momiji having the most half-assed discussion launcher yet, I'll let her be the first to actually have a finished profile in a long time. When I get around to it!

So, Hatate. She seems like a really neat person to me based on what I read. She seems more honest than Aya, though there's the possibility that she'll get "corrupted" by her newfound knowledge of how one has to succumb to the ways of the papparazzi for success. Her valley girl accent makes her seem like a bit of an airhead at first glance, but she actually seems rather thoughtful, which makes her simply sound like an open-minded, friendly kinda girl.

We don't really know much about Hatate. From what I understand, she's basically a schoolgirl that keeps a blog, reporting on what others have reported. No real fanon yet.

Should we really be doing her yet? The fandom hasn't had time to invent "Alternate Interpretations" (or any interpretation) of Hatate yet. We ought to skip to Suwako and maybe come back to Hatate in a few months.

I have a little bit of an idea in my mind already as to what I think Hatate is like. She's sort of like... well, not Aya's total opposite, but a counterpart of sorts. As a tengu, she's naturally quick-witted, curious, and agile, but where Aya gets carried away and exaggerates wildly, she is dedicated to doing things correctly and giving an accurate picture of what's going on. So whereas people read Aya's paper because they like the photos, Hatate's has better stories, probably, but the pictures aren't all that great because she gets them from other places. And since she uses spirit photography to find her stories and also meticulously researches everything instead of just spinning wild tales, it takes longer for her to print a paper than Aya does, and since Tengu love to gossip, by the time they come out, everyone's already heard of the stories she covers, thus the low circulation.

So, the pictures she takes are already taken by other photographers? Because I've got this nice little fanfiction brewing in my head where the photographers start wanting to get paid... (perhaps with a nice allusion to Digital Piracy Is Evil if I can get it to work...)

Her profile describes her ability as both taking pictures and as finding associated pictures. Her power would actually be kind of broken if she could create original ones, though, so it's probably the latter.

Broken relative to what? Aya? It's still just the power to obtain pictures.
