...right up Duke's alley imo.
"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."@Kane And Lynch: From what I remember, it went like this:
Game gets panned on Gamespot, publisher decides to pull ads from Gamespot, ad revenue gets lost, Gamespot fires the guy for costing them money.
This started the trend of the disconnect between the opinions of the reviewer and the score they give. Publishers usually tend to look at the scores and not the actual text, leading to the Four-Point Scale.

So, the main problem with the scene is mostly that it's an Out-of-Character Moment for Duke?
Dude goes on rampages over aliens stealing/killing their women (this happens a bunch in his games, or so I hear (or, at least, he really hates it when aliens mess with Earth's women)), but the scene with the twins (whose capture apparently set off Duke's current rampage?) has him being uncharacteristically flippant about their imminent death (apparently the tone in his "you're fucked" line).
I have a message from another time...The Hive seems to have colored peoples' perceptions in a very bad way. First, reviews had it appear to be a lot worse than it apparently is (I still haven't watched the level myself), then when it turned out to be not quite that bad, the feeling of disgust was still there. The fct that it had what appears to be an out of character moment for Duke is just something to justify that?
Or something. Do not take me at my word.
I have a message from another time...The thing about "The Hive" level wasn't just Duke's "Guess you're fucked." comment. You had two twins who were afraid that Duke didn't want to have sex with them any more. They were saying things like "It was our first time having sex with aliens..." and "We'll have the pregnancy weight off in a week, we promise!" (paraphrasing).
You know how they could've made the alien pregnancies funny? Have "The Hive" be a giant artificial insemination/sperm bank where all of the women are suitably bored rather than traumatized. Duke would liberate "waiting rooms" that are almost exactly like lobbies in Doctor's Offices on earth, complete with magazines.

"Sarchasm: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person that doesn't get it."I am seeing a whole lot of biased reviews on the internet. Is there a single one that A. Did not fall for 20 Fourteen year old hype and B. Was not offended?

Apocalypse: Dirge Of Swans.About the Hive, apparently I heard that one of Duke's lines when he kills the Octoroid-incubating women is "You're aborted!". I have to wonder if Gearbox has mercifully taken that out, as I haven't heard it yet.
Also, from the way the level is structed, you can immediately have Duke angry over what happened to the twins, and then chuckling over slapping a pair of breasts growing out of the wall and cracking jokes. That sure is classy.
This hand of mine is burning red! It's glow is calling me to defeat you!So, someone can tell me the whole controversy thing, how does this game is offensive?, it was always in that way, this not the first time
http://steamcommunity.com/id/Xan-Xan/well, having seen the scene in question(and nothing else), I don't really see how people can be so upset at Duke being so nonchalant about it when the twins don't really seem to mind either. And then when they explode, he seems genuinely pissed, so yeah.

XP granted for befriending a giant magical spider!Duke Nukem 3D was released as a parody of the 80's action movies, when the Stallones and Schwarzeneggers were declining in a big way in the mid '90's.
There's no parody in Forever, and like Mike Myers with Austin Powers, the guys in Texas missed what made the humor in Duke 3D more fun.
That's not to say people weren't upset with D Uke 3D. I know a few female gamers back in '96 who despised the game, with good reason.
And there's a LOT of misogyny in Forever. Over the top. Yeah, I know that the game is trying to parody Gears Of War with the guy mocking a soldier for being "whiny" about wanting to save his wife... but it comes off as "fuck women!" The entire GAME just shits on women as a whole, and it has no trace of irony, either. It's genuinely meanspirited.
Duke Nukem 3 D crossed the line twice.
Duke Nukem Forever crosses the line five times.

Jonah Falcon

He isn't exactly cheering in The Hive either...in fact, he was pissed when the twins blew up.
The game sucks...but the game always sucked even when the game was still popular all those years ago.
But the jokes and the way he acts is pretty consistent with the image he's built up. And was the one redeeming quality of the game. People are just too PC to handle the game's humor judging from the reviews and comments regarding The Hive level.
The jokes may be childish and something a 13 year old made up...but that's the point, it's always been like this.
