We're talking fics with a plot, here, ¬¬
For example, it would've made The Darkest Void utterly impossible, because Chisame would've never been around Negi in public to be a target used by people who want to get back at him but know that targetting him is pointless.
himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariHey, I prefer Chisame both as a character and a love interest to Negi as well. I still like Asuna, just less and think she works better as a sister figure.
Of course, she's the main girl which probably caused her to lose points for me. (The main character is pretty much never my fave. The only exceptions I can think of are Twilight Sparkle and Thrice Radiant Misho.
EDIT: As I said, the ending is perfectly workable for my fic, but mine has the advantage of being AU from Chao's arrival.

Just want to point out that I don't dislike Asuna. I'm actually fairly neutral to her, all things considered, even though I did say that she fills the big sister role rather nicely while she's around.
himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariMain characters that are my favorites are The World God Only Knows, Ouran High School Host Club, and Haruhi Suzumiya (to which I mean Kyon).
And that's only a few anime/manga.
Main characters who are actually my favorites of the whole series... let's see... there's Lina Inverse, and Kogarashi, Van, and Darkwing Duck... and I think that's it. Yeah, in every other work of fiction I can think of, I like a secondary character or villain better than the lead.
...
Hilariously enough, one of the main characters who receives the most bashing for being an idiot, a horrible father and quite the Blood Knight, despite being The Messiah, is my favorite character ever...

A messiah but a bad father? You mean the Emprah?

"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."My main issue with Goku is, no offense intended, he's a rather shallow character. You can't do a whole lot with him out of fight scenes. And he's a crappy friend all things considered (what kind of friend waits five years to tell you he just had a son? Naivete only can take Willing Suspension of Disbelief so far), so the standard Power of Friendship Shonen gospel doesn't really sound right with him either (not to mention he makes 99% of his friends irrelevant and useless in a conflict anyway).
It's never safe.

Hah, yeah, he is, I admit it. He has all those problems, and probably even more. In fact, as a main character, Gohan would be far superior.
Thing is, I don't care. That man taught me you never give up.
I am 23.
himitsu keisatsu seifu chokuzoku kokka hoanbu na no da himitsu keisatsu yami ni magireru supai katsudou torishimariI'm 23 as well.
Also, both of my major fics are unscathed because one follows the manga anyway (although it'll probably have gone Off the Rails due to the For Want Of A Nail involved by the time I get to the end), and the other one pretty much goes in a completely different direction a month before Mahorafest.

I remember watching Yu Yu Hakusho more than i did DB back in the day, but they've both got a lot of good memories for me. And a bunch of "Yeah, a lot of that stuff was ridiculous" memories too, of course.
I'm currently 22.

@Immi: Technically, any Negima fanfic story that diverges from a particular point in the canon timeline is semi-canon, since the Negimaverse confirms that there can and has been a few branchings in the timeline that can lead to very different outcomes.
