Ah, the good old Import Filter. Doubtless the #1 cause of True Art Is Foreign.
We do indeed have some pretty terrible music over here. I'm unsure what travels overseas and what doesn't, ad I was pretty sure no-one knew who Florence + the Machine were, but then they were grammy-nominated. Anyone know who Dizzee Rascal and Tinie Tempah are?
Not many people realize, 50 Cent is half man, half cossack. - Ross NobleDizzee Rascal I only know of from the Internet, but Tinie Tempah's had a couple of minor hitsin the U.S. with "Written In The Stars" and another song who's name I don't know.
You can't even write racist abuse in excrement on somebody's car without the politically correct brigade jumping down your throat!I'm baaaaack! And this time I want you guys to pretty much force me to listen to the albums, because I really suck at this and I feel quite guilty for continually dropping out of it considering I started it. And yes, I am British.
On the subject of British music, I would agree that it's actually not that great at the moment. It only looks good from the outside because shit like Jessie J (*shudder*) doesn't make its way outside of the UK's student bars.
By the way, if nominations for Round Four are still open, I'd like to suggest School Of Seven Bells - Disconnect From Desire. I shall make a playlist or find a mediafire upload later - watch this post for edits.

Listen to Music with Tropers at The Troper Turntable!I've never so much as heard a Jessie J song and I intend to keep it that way
Also, yes, I am British.
Also I need to catch up with this! I'm very slow at the moment. I haven't got much to add to the Loveless discussion more than what's been said, already listened to it a few times too. The production is absolutely fantastic, but the songs themselves could be better and I honestly do not understand the massive, massive hype around this album. It's very influential, but I don't see the huge greatness in it. I have to say that When You Sleep and Soon are really neat songs though.
Overall, em bee vee are a pretty tidy band but nothing that makes no go OMGMASTERPIECE
The Bauhaus album is another I've already heard, but I do want to re-listen to it before offering my thoughts
Well, he is almost certainly the greatest British rapper.
He really does not have any competition. Unless you count The Streets (and believe me, I don't.)
I'm gonna start listening to the album again soon, but I'm kind of watching Comic Relief at the moment.
Not many people realize, 50 Cent is half man, half cossack. - Ross NobleOkay, I didn't like this, at all.
It was promising at first, lots of lo-fi scratchiness. But the singer's voice is just....ugh. I don't even know. It conjures images of overly 'emo' people in poorly-lit rooms pretending to cut themselves. Is that what the music's actually about? I have no freaking clue! I couldn't understand a damn thing he was saying, and I'm REALLY not sure if I want to. Bauhaus have been praised (if I'm thinking of the right band) for innovative instrumentation, and that doesn't strike me here. Maybe it's "Seinfeld" Is Unfunny or something, I dunno.
That said, the instrumental parts were quite good. Just the singing...ruins even the parts with good instrumentation. Extremely mixed bag, giving it a rating to reflect as such.
5//10
I spread my wings and I learn how to fly....I know of Love & Rockets solely from an Aesop Rock Shout-Out
Elaborate plz.

I spread my wings and I learn how to fly....The lead singer sounds like someone trying to do a Rob Halford impression, and failing completely.
This 4th song is pretty terrible. :/ It's just not nice.
A Harpishcord? This song is sounding better already! I'm noticing a trend however for a perfectly listenable song with a nice tune to randomly throw in some horrible messy sounds, apparently with the only intention of being nasty.
Ooo liking the atmospheric opening of The Three Shadows Pt. 1, nice quiet drumming and bass as well, this is going well! Is this entirely an instrumental? As much as I like this tune, it's starting to get very repetitive. I need a change damnit! Kick in, or at least sing! Actuallywaitnodontdothat
.....This is the whole song isn't it? Siiiiigh. I need a break from these vocals. Time for a My Little Pony break!
Well the 3rd part was short. And thank god. These vocals are progessively getting worse.
Hey, All We Ever Wanted Was Everything actually sounds considerably better! His voice is actually OK on this one, and I really like the bassline and the jangly guitar, mixed with the distorted effects. This is good! Thumbs up!
Of all the musicians, I can with quite a bit of confidence say my favourite is the bassist, whose work is pretty nice. The bassline on the intro to Exquisite Corpse and the previous song, and a few others, is quite nice. They remind me of the Cure at times. Oh goddamnit snore sound effects, seriously? I think they are deliberatly embracing camp, but that doesn't make it OK.
Wait a minute, Bauhaus! They did Bela Lugosi's Dead! I knew i knew the name!

Not many people realize, 50 Cent is half man, half cossack. - Ross NobleI don't see what's so bad about the singing.
Funny, if I didn't know beforehand that this was Goth Rock, I would have pegged it as New Wave. EDIT: Probably because I was getting New Wave mixed up with Post-Punk, and Goth is derived from the latter.
WE LOVE OUR AUDIENCE

/British music.
Good albums in British top 20, as of right now (IMO): Chase & Status, Cee-Lo, Elbow. Good albums in American top 20: Raekwon.
Plus, England made Damon Albarn.
Nuff said.
@Spain Sun The comic or the band?

We must move forward, not backward. Upward, not forward. And always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom. Is the track "Exquisite Corpse" actually an exquisite corpse
? It sounds like it could be, but the other wiki doesn't say.

It only seems consistently fantastic because most of the crap doesn't get outside its borders.
A brighter future for a darker age.
