Swamp Dogg. Even The Other Wiki doesn't have very much to say
about him.
While I'll admit (sorry) that I haven't heard of Shostakovich or Bela Bartok, me admittedly not being too well versed in classical music...Liszt?!?? People seriously say that they have not even at least heard of Liszt?!??
Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.
Whoa! Ahoge!
What? Romantic? Could've sworn they were contemporary... Maybe Shostakovich I could understand, but not Bartok or Liszt...
And JS Bach is not the only Bach. -_-

Gay elephant noise?I'm tempted to say Fun, but I'm not sure they count anymore because Glee did a cover of "We Are Young". When the spoiler came out, no one had a clue what that song was. They're amazing though.
Also, Jim and the Povolos
. The only people who know about them are Starkid fans, but they're fantastic on their own.
I'm just assuming a lot of people mistook it for Pat Benatar's "Love is a Battlefield".
I stand corrected. This is rather embarassing, because I actually studied Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra as part of a module on 20th Century orchestral music a couple of years ago.
Finally, something really obscure!

A Liverpool local band who only did a few concerts around the country. Might have quit at this point, since their website is down and last activity on MS page was a year ago.
One of the most underrated bands in the Power Pop genre, let alone the 90s music scene. I find it so sad that they were a one hit wonder (Dream All Day) when yet I find Frosting on the Beater to be in the ranks with Nirvana's Nevermind as one of the best 90's rock albums. They were even on Bill Nye The Science Guy and nobody's even heard of them. Ridiculious...
Check out the band in my sig.
Also, here are some gems from my library worth checking out:
- Evol Intent (*Drum'n'Bass, IDM*)
- Architect (*Haujobb side-project*)
- Shitmat (*Breakcore*)
- Saltillo (*Trip-Hop*)
- Ghostpoet (*Wonky, Hip-Hop*)
- Triarii (*Martial Industrial (*WARNING: Contains Nazi*)*)
- Uncle Bonsai (*Comedy Folk*)
- Nero's Day At Disneyland (*Glitch with a dose of classical music, hymns, chants and other weirdness*)
On that note, Cock Rock Disco
is a kick ass label, check out all the artist there, and pick up some free music while you're there, esepec. the EPs by NDAD, Ladyscraper & The Toilet.

The Peels. Just try and tell me "Only Son"
isn't awesome.
The Heartless Bastards.
A female-fronted blues-rock band. The singer could easily be Janis Joplin reincarnated. They're a band who keeps growing, too, while remaining true to their roots.
Here's a live rendition of Swamp Song
from their first album. Here's All This Time
from their second album. The Mountain
from their third album. And Parted Ways
and The Arrow Killed the Beast
from their most recent album.
They're just starting to get some recognition - they've had two appearances on Letterman and one on Conan - but they still don't have nearly the following they deserve.

I've heard a little Shitmat. Pretty nice.
One of my friends adores this band.
Your friend is awesome. They're my favourite band.
I guess I'm gonna go plug the bands I particularly liked in the Rock & Roll Rumble
we had this year:
Ghosts Of Jupiter
. Very 70's-ish prog-tinged bluesy hard rock. Think of something like Cream or later Led Zeppelin.
The Rationales
. Your basic rootsy power pop, but done well, and a bit more rockin' than I normally think of power pop bands as being.
Motherboar
. There were a few other heavy bands in the running, but they were probably the heaviest - some pretty intense stoner metal that kinda makes me think of early Mastodon.
Pray For Polanski
. I mainly like this band for their male-female vocal interplay. The chorus to "9191911" is super-simple but incredibly catchy.
Garvy J And The Secret Pockets Of Hope And Resistance
. Sorta psychedelic indie pop - if there's a song that I first heard during the competition that stuck in my head as much as "9191911", it's "Celebrate"
, so there's that.

Oh, Metabolist. Very interesting stuff.
I will list three Canadian artists, along with two recommended tracks from each.
I doubt you've heard of Raghav ("Fire", "Top Of The World"), and I bet my copy of Dinosaurs: The Most Complete, Up-to-Date Encyclopedia for Dinosaur Lovers of All Ages you've never heard of Craig Smart ("One Life Stand", "123"). Dru ("Getting It In", "She Can Ride") is also good, but not in the same league as the previous three.

Peace is the only battle worth waging.
The Avalanches are really not that obscure. Enjoyable, yes, but reasonably well-known, especially considering that the kind of music that they make is usually a lot further underground.
I'm sorry if that sounds more-indie-than-thou, but really, this thread is supposed to be for stuff that you honestly think that almost no-one else on this site has listened to, but should. Awesome esoterica. The Avalanches may be awesome, but they are not esoteric.

I'll hide your name inside a word and paint your eyes with false perception.

To start off with a questionable choice, Simon And Garfunkel. I realize how extremely famous they are, but I have never met a single person, neither on- nor offline, who is a huge fan of them, as in someone who literally tries to listen to every single thing they've recorded.
For a less questionable choice, Pepper's Ghost. They're a Phillie-based alt-rock group whose album Shake the Hand that Shook the World has some pretty solid rock on it, especially the songs "You're In My Heart (Little Pretty)", "Rosalina" (which is my favorite song of theirs), "How 'Bout it Now" (admittedly, more an acoustic, country-ish song), "All I Know
" (link to the song on Grooveshark), and "That's Life". The following song ("4 Letter Friend") is from their EP The Vet and is the only studio recording I could find of theirs on You Tube:
EDIT: Okay, here's "Everything and Anything"
(from the album mentioned above—not their best, but still pretty solid) and a less-polished version of "How 'Bout it Now"
.
