Maybe could use a better picture: Casting A Shadow

Looking at the picture for the page, I wouldn't be able to tell that the person pictured is using any kind of shadow ability. The purple-colored spell might give the idea they are using Black Magic or something like that, but I wouldn't think shadow at all.

I found this picture of Celty from Durarara.

It could work, but thought I'd post it as what I would think is a good illustration of the trope- a character actually manipulating shadow.

It doesn't have to be "shadow" power; it's just darkness powers used for good. Though a non-fanart would be ideal.

They don't have to be used for good necessarily. I do see that the definition includes darkness powers in general, so I guess the picture at present sort of fits that. Still not sure it's the best image though.

[up] This isn't shadow-related; it's darkness related. Powers of darkness, not powers of shadows.

If this trope is not about shadows we should rename it immediately and remove every shadow manipulation example!

Powers over shadows is a sub factor of darkness, but I do think the title is misleading. Picture wise, I'm a fan of the Celty one myself.

This was a hard trope to rename. It's just gone through the TRS, and the name was almost unanimous on the crowner. It was hard to come up with an elemental pun the first time, so I don't think the name is going anywhere fast. You have a legitimate point about the name though.

I think the current pic is fine to emphasise that this is not restricted to shadow control.

The tropes is about both darkness and shadows because it's very hard to disentangle them. A lot of times it's just a matter of semantics. It's very hard to find a picture of one that isn't a picture of the other. Is that shadow moving because he can control darkness and that's what shadows are made of? Or are they calling it shadow manipulation when those arms of darkness erupt from his body?

Since the trope is purely about wielding darkness as a power, Celty pic should do fine. This trope used to be named Dark is Edgy, and I see that the rename has not managed to make it any more clear what the trope is.

Anyways, here's a nice Raven one. Or perhaps this one might be clearer.

I like the name Casting a Shadow. But that (several different [up]s) is a good reason to have the picture be of general darkness and not specifically a shadow.

Whelp, I might as well give the obligatory One Piece example (man, I've been doing a lot of these lately, haven't I)

At the very least, the image needs a caption change, seeing as the current one is a HUGE spoiler for Chrono Trigger.

Kind of like Blackbeard as the example (Maybe a better picture, though) as he's also good for Dark Is Evil if need be. But, I am slightly biased.

On the issue of Shadows, though, I would say examples here belong as look at Light The Way where it has it as something holy and regular laser light.

Asking whether there are other ideas doesn't help people come up with ideas, or otherwise cause people to post an idea that they otherwise wouldn't have posted.

Well, it just seems that the thread has been shoveled down to the bottom of the pile.

People who didn't notice it before can maybe post something on it now.

Many people periodically comb old threads looking for stuff that languished. There isn't much point to bumping something that is already on the first page of threads.

If you want to usefully bump stuff, look on the second, third, hell the last page.

Well, that would be understandable if we had no good image suggestions, but we have plenty on here.

Now it's just a matter of picking between them.
