Re: Yangires: Seconded so hard. Is it really that hard to write believable conflict without having someone go Nice Boat halfway through the season?
It's been fun.- Emperor, you're exactly right about the first one. It's so disappointingly common in anime, in fact, that we have a trope for that.
Yep, I know about that trope. It could be funny if they actually tried to be clever about it.

I like yangires though because I tend to like characters who are creepy as fuck.

^^^ I've read some of the manga, he's much more Badass. In the anime though, let's say he sould rank Sub-brick on the Vito-meter.
^ I like them too. I just fail to see how anyone in-universe could ever feel safe around them.

I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serial@Yangires- Either a)they are good at keeping their crazy in check and the other characters don't notice or b) they have a skill or ability that outweighs their crazy(see Yuuno or Anemone or c) the character has an attachment to them (friend, or familial or romantic) that makes them overlook the crazy.
Thread Hop!
...Damn, I really liked Twelve Kingdoms. The anime, I mean. I thought it was pretty awesome actually. I mean, one of the best animes I've seen in a while.
Ohai.
I had watched the occasional episode of Blue Gender when it was first airing on Adult Swim. I missed a lot of episodes but what I saw, I liked. Eventually I go back to it and watch the whole series. First 10 episodes there are some quirks but I definitely enjoy it more than a lot of the other anime I get told to watch.
Then comes episode 11. What in the world just happened... a series that, while suffering mild stupidity on the part of characters from the beginning, goes into full retardation. The whole scene with Yuji, Hans, and the rest of the crew in the power room. It just... there are no words for how absolutely stupid that whole scene was, it was just so incredibly bad and it effected the entire episode.
It took me about a week before I could bring myself to continue the series. I don't think there has ever been any singular episode of any show that has infuriated and annoyed me to such a degree as this did. I literally spent about an hour, during and immediately after my initial watching of the episode, ranting and raving to my friend. At 3 in the morning. While she was asleep.
And then I come onto Tropes, go to the Blue Gender page, and someone points out that apparently this episode is apparently one that people site as a Growing the Beard moment. Was an absolute Crowning Moment of Suck for me...

The Anachronic Order of Haruhi Suzumiya, especially since I actually tried watching it according to the televised order. It wasn't until recently that I was actually recommended by a friend to watch it completely out of this order.
You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction.^ The Anachronic Order of Rental Magica is much worse.
Whoever said that the rest of the cast had to feel safe around a yangire? Look at Tsukuyomi from Mahou Sensei Negima, for instance. Almost the entire cast is freaked out by her.
What's precedent ever done for us?About Yangires, isn't there some debate as to whether they're even a legitimate trope? Look at the examples.
The trope was inspired by Nanoha, who isn't one.
Quattro's listed as one, but she's not insane. She's just a Bitch in Sheep's Clothing.
Rene Ryugu isn't remotely insane when she isn't infected. She doesn't fit.
Mari Makinami: I haven't seen the movies since I've yet to find a copy with an English sub in Korea, but the description makes her sound more like a berserker.
Tsukuyomi: even the example admits she's more of a Yandere. On her first appearance she seemed more like a creepy Emotionless Girl.
Chizuru Naba is actually a better example, IF she did anything insane. Has she? Being a Yamato Nadeshiko with hints of being rather dangerous under the surface isn't quite the same as being "outwardly-normal-but-inwardly-psychotic".
Elfen Lied: The diclonius are simply Omnicidal Maniac. Except for Nana and Lucy. Lucy is a Yandere and Nana is just generally a walking plot hole.
Rip van Winkle, as with Quattro, simply isn't that insane. She's just an Ax-Crazy eccentric and I don't think she ever pretends to be anything but.
Light Yagami is just a sociopath. That's pretty much it.
The Revolutionary Girl Utena examples are better. Especially Wakaba. However Shiori fits manipulative bitch better and Wakaba at her freak-out point was more of a Broken Bird. She also gets better.
Kafuka Fura, same as Chizuru Naba, would qualify if she actually did anything psychotic. As it is she's more of a Nightmare Fuel Station Attendant Cloudcuckoolander Stepford Smiler. Which is more than enough to load on one person.
I'm not going to bother with listed examples from non-anime/manga since this is the anime and manga forum. Plus I have to teach young children in the morning. I'm also not going to comment on things I haven't read.
I'm inclined to wonder though, isn't this supposed to be about Wallbangers that make you rage and not about complaining about tropes you don't like?

Also, that non-sequitorial season-ending episode...are we sure that wasn't a nightmare someone had after overdosing on Ny Quil?
As someone who has liveblogged this whole thing, I throughly agree. After being in pure disbelief about how much of an Idiot Hero Nats is, I heard that he wasn't that way in the manga or light novels. Naturally, I was skeptical, so I looked up the manga.
...which is actually really good. What the hell?
Yeah, the last episode is also...whuaaattt incarnate. It took me months to get around to even watching it, but I'm glad I did since it's basically Fanservice in every sense of the word (breasts and Entrails Animals! Guess which one I was interested in.)
~PirkaEvery single scene that happens with Flanderized Type A Tsunderes are Wall Banger's to me.
But a lot of you should know that by now.

Watch Symphogear^ Pull THE STRING! PULL THE STRING!
I was just reminded of that line, sorry.

Watch SymphogearShe does when Keiichi is hallucinating, though. And it is from there most of her fame comes from. For all the readers/viewers know Rena was an excellent example of Yangire in the first chapter/four episodes. I guess you could argue she is a subversion, but she is still playing the trope.
You listed a bunch of bad examples, but that don't say much. This is not even the majority of examples.
Anyway, you are right, this is off-topic. Take that to the Trope Repair Shop if you want to continue this discussion.
I think the biggest Wall Banger is the fan overreaction to the whole Endless Eight arc.
Discover the rest as the game progresses. That's up there, yeah. The fact that the fandom by and large threw a bitchfit because Kyo Ani decided to animate the same thing eight times doesn't make me any more inclined to mesh with the fandom.
I'm not saying it was well-thought out on Kyo Ani's part (in terms of retaining loyalty. It was a world-class troll), but there are more important things to worry about.
Like yangires and how they're an annoying character type.
It's been fun.I don't see how that was a overreaction or a Wall Banger at all. Endless Eight was told as ONE story in ONE novel originally. It being spread out to literally eight episodes of mostly the same thing over and over was NOT something that fans wanted to see.

It wasn't KyoAni that decided to do it; it was Executive Meddling because they wanted to make Disappearance into a movie. ...Or So I Heard, anyway.

I guess it is.Suzumiya's not a very filler-friendly anime. With so many plot threads, having non-Tanigawa writers make shit up would only lower the overall quality of the anime; and Tanigawa-sensei himself is having trouble with Astonishment as it is. Why give him other stuff to write?
...Of course, they could have animated Snow Mountain Syndrome and Where Did The Cat Go?, and probably Charmed at First Sight LOVER in the space...
It's been fun.

Fucking Kampfer, specifically, the anime version of Natsuru. The manga (and maybe light novel, I wouldn't know) featured him as a relatively straight lead character, but the anime version makes him so freaking dense I don't think even light can escape his(?) head.
Also, that non-sequitorial season-ending episode...are we sure that wasn't a nightmare someone had after overdosing on NyQuil?
