As pointed out in the YKTTW this isn't the best name as the simpler Not Rape If You Are Married is more clear.

The launcher decided to launch it under his preferred name despite a large preference for the other in the YKTTW.

Indeed.

"Wax on, wax off..." "But Mr. Miyagi, I don't see how this is helping me do Karate..." "Pubic hair is weakness, Daniel-san!"

"Large" meaning Saccett himself and one more guy who preferred the "not rape" title over the title under which the trope was launched. (Not counting the three guys, myself being one of those three, who thought that the the original seven words long title was clumsy and generating more snowclone confusion then the "not rape" would.)

As I pointed out on the YKTTW, most examples really doesn't work with the "not rape" title, because the situation is indeed portrayed as rape - and often acknowledged as such even by the rapist himself.

Actually, of the nine examples there is only one that unproblematically fit a "not rape" title... oh wait, not unproblematic. That one example debates whether it's rape or not, and quite frankly we shouldn't side with those fundies who claim that it is not rape.

The "not rape" title was suggested as a bad snowclone replacing another bad snowclone.

The problem with "Rape is okay if you are married" was that the other tropes under the "rape is okay..." snowclone focus on type B cases, where it's he narrative that claims that the rape is okay. Marital Rape License focus more on Type A - where the narrative clearly define it as rape, but the rapist himself thinks he have the right.

Snowcloning Its Not Rape If You Enjoyed It has the same problem!

So, no, snowcloning does NOT make the title clearer. Not in this case.

I agree with both Xzenu's points, and hir reasoning. Calling a trope "Rape is OK..." when most of the examples are of cases where it is presented as not okay is counterproductive. "Not rape if..." has the same problem; the majority of the examples indicate that the audience is supposed to treat it as rape. And "It's a snowclone" is a weak reason to use a name.

[up][up] and [up] I agree. It really seems to be about rape still being rape even if you're married. Both the snowclones are for the opposite.

It's Still Rape If You're Married? Keeps the snowcloniness, if that is a virtue.

the fact that there are so many rape tropes makes me sad :(

I thought the point of the trope was that someone in the story thinks that a husband can't rape his wife because marriage implies permanent consent?

I much prefer the current name. It's accurate  *

, short and to the point. And honestly, the "Rapist think it's not rape or think it is" is not that big an issue as it is most often shown as rape, so the current title has this going in its favor.

Indeed, I don't think we could do any better than the durrent title. Marriage gives you the right to sex, and thus the right to take it by force - a license to rape.

Sure, if everyone else thinks it's a good name, okay.
