Ah, the ol' ripoff argument. I remember when me and a friend were arguing about which was a ripoff of which back in the long past year of 1998. See, back then we only knew that both had an orange reptile and that was enough to prove that one plagerized the other. So we [goes off into long, rambling story that slowly makes less and less sense]... and that's how Santa and the Easter Bunny were aquitted of crimes against humanity.
Now, I have 3 more things to say:
- 1. Digimon's the better show, but Pokemon has better games.
- 2. I'm going with the view that the comic is refering to the earlier mentioned argument.
- 3. Frontier was actually good.
Jar-Jar character?
And let's see: Rika went from treating the Digimon as callously as if they were just a game to forming an actual bond with her partner, Takato had, among other things, that moment where he realized he was pushing Guilmon too much, and he generally went from goofy kid to a very strong person.
And, you know, a lot of what happened with Jeri.
Etc.
As for 02, what about Ken? He changes so much the character sheet gives him 2 entries.

I have a message from another time...When I was a kid, all I knew was: "Digimon? We got Pokémon last year! RIPOFF!"
Then Digimon aired, and any quality it might have had was overshadowed by the Finnish dub
, which was so bad everyone makes fun of it even today.
When they showed that second series, with the Emperor as a bad guy, they ran out of dubbed episodes and showed it subtitled for a month. For that short period of time, I watched it with utmost glee, and had to take back my earlier insults toward Digimon.
What does this have to do with the thread? Not much, but I'm just relaying my own experiences here.
@Indigo Dingo: Davis was neither arrogant nor an ass. He was an idiot. He knew hew was an idiot, and he accepted his limitation. I mean, his life's dream was to open a noodle cart. How can you call that arrogant. If anything, Davis was humble, but short-sighted. He only cared about what life threw at him this very instant. And it was those qualities that saved the greoup from (Marsh)Melo-Miotismon.
"Dohoho, I'm gonna trap you in a universe where all of your problems are solved!"
"Dohoho, My problem is that you're here, so you just made Veemon powerful enough to defeat you."
TL;DR: Davis was awesome and die in a fire for saying otherwise.
That last episode was weird.
"My digimon digivolves... and his previous form remains here at the same time. So that previous one evolves on both of his other paths, creating more copies, and my main one fueses with another guy, creating another copy, and then he goes super, creating another copy, and then changes battle modes, creating another copy. Insane illusion worlds rule."
It wasn't until Gurren Lagann that I saw another violation of mass conservation that bad.

I have a message from another time...Just a correction here: Pokemon was inspired by Dragon Warrior Monsters, which in turn was inspired by Shin Megami Tensei. So Pokemon is only a Mega Ten ripoff by proxy.
So let me get this straight.
Every mons series is a rip off of every other mons series?
C'mon people, can we stop throwing the word "ripoff" around so easily? They're different goddamn games that happen to share one central concept. Are all platformers ripoffs of each other? All first person shooters? All RP Gs?
It was a simple joke. Nothing more, nothing less.
One of my few regrets about being born female is the inability to grow a handlebar mustache. -LandstanderDon't you know? No designer, artist, or anything else is allowed to gain influence from anything else. There are only rip off and plagarism, and influence, genres, trends, or homages don't exist (this would fall under the category of genres).
If you're a designer making a game of certain type, expect to never be acknowledged for your design's unique creative qualities, and only be slammed for how you allegedly "ripped off" other people.
But yeah, I agree. People throw around the term "rip-off" way too often.

Can we just accept that Scott Ramosair drew that comic strip to make everybody start fighting?
They assed first. I am only retaliating in an ass way. -The Dead Man's LifeHe probably did, that cunning bastard...
One of my few regrets about being born female is the inability to grow a handlebar mustache. -LandstanderI never got into Digimon because I never figured out the premise. And the show began far before I started watching random cartoons on TV.
I had the fortune of actually seeing the very first ten episodes of Pokémon. This really helped in getting me interested.
I did mean for quite a while to actually look into Digimon. Its premise and its mons work in totally different ways, so I never got the hang of it without actually studying it, which I never did.

I don't remember much of the characters in season four but I do remember that two and three had plenty of character development from everyone.
Pokemon is still better~
