My angry rant blog! With Broken Age, the screw-ups and delays IMO were unfortunate but understandable given they were doing a documentary of the whole process and the documentary was part of the project, the thing that was guaranteed even if the game failed to come through. The main thing they suffered from was scope creep: they expanded their vision of the game to try and match the new budget, over extended and had to cut it back again. This is a super-common thing even when crowdfunding isn't involved and it takes good management to be able to ride head on it. If you want to say Schaefer isn't a great project manager, that's probably fair.
Can't comment on DF-9 as I only know the bare facts, though I'd say it sucks a whole lot more.
Massive Challice, to my knowledge, came out ok though I think it got mediocre reviews. Schaefer wasn't involved in the dev in any direct way that I know of.
If they're getting outside investment for Psychonauts 2 besides the crowdfunding, they're at least going to have somebody doing that "riding head on things".
Raz is free DLC in Zombie Vikings... as Raz-ombie.
First devs play ep is up....
They didn't even mention the soundtrack. The thing that made me want to check out those games.
Monsters.
My angry rant blog!Hmm. I wish I could say that I'm excited about this. But Double Fine has had so many missteps over the years. I liked Brutal Legend, but it was missing so many things, big and small, that I'm skeptical that it was all the fault of the game's publisher problems. Broken Age sounds like it was mishandled, and despite the fact that it took over a year for the second part to be completed, a lot of people still think it was weaker than the first half, and ironically some have commented that despite everything, it still feels like they ran out of time and money. Spacebase was a huge screw up, Massive Chalice got mixed reviews, and Double Fine is still having trouble finding publishers for their projects. I don't know why Psychonauts turned out as well as it did, but I'm not convinced that the Double Fine of today can give the game a worthy sequel. Plus, the game was made in 2005. How many of the people who worked on it are still at Double Fine? It doesn't seem like the kind of thing that has a style that can easily be replicated by other people.
The fact that the game's made as much money as it has tells me that Tim Schafer has more goodwill left than I thought he did. If it is funded, hopefully he'll surprise me. To quote Raz, "Hoping for the best...but preparing for the worst".
Psychnonauts 2's story has been finished a long time ago, as are the plans. All they needed was a budget.
And most of the money is coming from a publisher. The crowdfunding is for completion funds.
Them having the funds has nothing to do with my post.
It's possible that the goodwill is for the Psychonauts franchise itself as opposed to Tim Schafer. Maybe people are willing to look past Tim Schafer and Double Fine's recent history for the sake of more Psychonauts, or are unaware of it.

Cortex should take a 12-step plan off a 10-step pierHold on one second. Massive Chalice had no issues.
It did have pacing issues at least xD Its so long game that at one point it get bits boring since at that point no new enemy types appear anymore(besides advanced versions of older ones)
Oh, certainly. Not that there still aren't people who genuinely support Schafer and Double Fine, but I doubt anything other than Psychonauts 2 would've gotten this level of funding.
I haven't heard of it having any development problems, but it did end up getting mixed reviews. I don't think it had a super level of hype behind it, though.

My angry rant blog!We have broken the 3 million mark.....only 300 k left till this is a thing.
We've made the fourth weekly mission so the Jak and Daxter/Crash Bandicoot episodes will be up soon
And as of this typing we are just a couple hundred away from reaching 3.2 million
only 100k left to go.
I'm waffling on whether to back with $800 donation.
we are 3k away from 50k left. It could pass the finish line either tonight or tomorrow at this rate.
You're probably thinking that Psychonauts 2 will be about how Raz and crew rescues Lili's father like they said they would at the end of the last game. But this article says: According to Shafer, Psychonauts 2 picks up close to the first game’s cliffhanger, where Raz, Lili, and the rest of the Psychonauts flew off to rescue the kidnapped Truman Zanotto. The sequel takes place after having successfully rescued Zanotto. Morover there's a announcement for a VR game calledPsychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin, that is apparently a midquel between the two games and will be about the rescue of Lili's father.
I REALLY hope one can play with out a VR headset. i don't plan to get one anytime within the next 2 years.
Devs play on Crash Bandicoot (Jak and Daxter will be the next one.)
