You went to Great Escape? Lucky bastard
. It looked like an amazing line-up, with the exception of Chase And Status sat on top like that annoying layer of mould you have to scrape off of an otherwise delicious jar of jam.
You know why I don't read Pitchfork? Well, I've asked Jason Martin of Starflyer 59 a few questions via email. One of the things he told me was that he's never been a big fan of the attitude that "We're Christians in a band, not a Christian Band"; in his mind, he's a Christian so his music is Christian music, even if he only mentions Jesus once in an entire album.
What does this have to do with Pitchfork? Well, here's the opening paragraph of their review of Sf59's Talking Voice vs Singing Voice:
At least I don't have to worry about people liking Pitchfork in my fandom of choice.
Their name is dirt in the Hip-Hop community, Doseone has even called them out on the fact that they (allegedly, I don't actually know) liked his label's Indie Rock groups, but not the hip-hop groups (look up Why? and and cLOUDDEAD, tell me if you can distinguish between the two).
I spread my wings and I learn how to fly....@Saeg Yup, every year there's someone like that (and oddly, the TV footage is of only those pop gigs...)
Never been much for Pitchfork for various reasons. As blogs go I'd recommend Chromewaves, Aquarium Drunkard, Aurgasm, Spine.tv, and Said The Gramophone. If not for them I might not know who most of the musicians mentioned here are.
...is out to lunch. So, according to the other wiki, a bunch of musicians
have released albums named Album.
I want to start a band named Album, and our first album would be self-titled. That way, wikipedia would have to refer to it as "Album (Album album)" just to distinguish us from all the other Album's out there.
Then, our sophomore release would be named Album (Album album); wikipedia would have to call it "Album (Album album) (album)". Then our third release would be Album (Album album) (album)...
Basically, every album would copy wikipedia's title for the previous album verbatim, forcing them to keep tacking "(album)"'s to the end.
I've considered titling something <[{|#|}]> for exactly that reason
.
Is it my imagination, or does that look like a Godspeed You Black Emperor album title?
Or Sigur Ros, who actually did name an album ().
@Spain Sun - Pitchfork gave decent reviews to cLOUDDEAD'S s/t compilation and Ten. Think 8.0 and 7.8.
Far as Pitchfork goes, they are very annoying, but they do serve a purpose. I enjoy reading their reviews, sometimes just to rage, other times to admire the (rare) excellent piece of writing.
http://www.last.fm/user/BlueGhost60@Spain: Do you have the link to that? I am curious. Far as I know, Pitchfork doesn't really treat hip-hop bad, they just don't care about it overall as much as rock.
http://www.last.fm/user/BlueGhost60Alternatively, a song you've never heard of from a video game you've never heard of
. That is actually the title, as far as I know.
Anyway. Listened to some work Negativland did with my favorite band. Not sure how to feel about sound collages. I kind of like Revolution 9, but...

^hm, this. And my last word on Best Coast- they played a few sets at the Great Escape, so I caught one. Turns out yes they do use the same drum line for every song.
