There are probably a lot more albums I'd like to hear than ones actually worth me buying.

Just when I thought genres couldn't get any sillier...

I swear, someday I should make a list of the most ridiculous genres. Maybe I could write it for Cracked.com?

While Chan Marshall has been dubbed the "Queen of Sadcore", other bands such as Low have rejected the term for being too cheesy.

Even the bands themselves think it's cheesy? Wow.

You can't even write racist abuse in excrement on somebody's car without the politically correct brigade jumping down your throat!

And what, pray tell, is "sadcore"?

Sad Girls In The Snow should totally be a band name.

^ Yes, that should definitely be a band name. But would they be sadcore, or merely unhappycore? Ah, the wonders of genre myopia...

Oh, and Radiohead are apparently known as "slowcore" now. I can't decide which genre is more ridiculous.

Quoted from the 'Sadcore' article:

The term is an example of use of the suffix "-core".

Huh.

I think it's usually called J-Pop.

Sometimes I think Gracenote etc got it right with shortlist of 12 genres (or however short the list actually is).

Admittedly the grouping of Alternative & Punk annoys me.

^ Very yes. 'Alternative & Punk' annoys the hell out of me, as it comes up for just about every CD I've ever bought, from And So I Watch You From Afar to Blue Roses. It did make me laugh, however, when it decided that the most appropriate genre for Tyondai Braxton was 'Unclassifiable'.

Heh, how is 'unclassifiable' a genre?! Seriously, I'll tolerate Radiohead being referred to as alot of things, but not anything with 'the suffix core'.

Radiohead are definitely not an anything-core kind of band. And they're not 'Indie' either, whatever that means nowadays. As far as I'm concerned, they are Experimental Rock.

If "-core" is the most meaningless suffix and "post-" is the most meaningless prefix and "fusion" is the most meaningless extra word, what would "postcore fusion" be?

what would "postcore fusion" be?

A post-hardcore/jazz fusion band, maybe? I think there's a band that actually does something akin to that.

Well personally I would've loved to have seen Invisibl Skratch Piklz live. And X-Ecutioners impress me if only because they developed a notation system for scratching. Oh and I saw Jazzy Jeff play once. I could go on. You (all)?
