Yes, but Baroque != Classical, apparently. I'm just imagining a bunch of screaming and loud drums doing a fugue.

Y'know, the original guitarist of The Human Abstract was a classically trained musician...and they were influenced by classical music...And they are progressive metalcore....

^Oh, I know nothing like that.

Tzetze: Maybe, but like Screamo and -core, to someone who is unfamiliar with either the distincion makes no sense

Like moi with Electronica and Intrumental Hip-Hop it is not Electronica grrrr.

'kay, this is weird, I can't find Rock + Classical here, which is strange because I've heard it before. I mean, off the top of my head, guitar... although I guess that's more of a cover. evil grin

^Yngwie Malmsteem tries to do the Heavy Metal + Classical thing. He fails more often than he succeeds though.

That's the guy. I was spacing on his name. Yeah, what I listened to was basically classical WITH METAL SOLO, meh.

Yes, but Baroque != Classical, apparently.

Well, I suppose that's because Classical != classical. The latter is used to describe Western (read: Austro-Hungarian hegemony) "art" music as a whole, the former just refers to a period. In chronological order Renaissance - Baroque - Classical - Romantic - Modern (and various subcategories there of).

However, much of modern music has been declared Discontinuity by a number of classical musicians, leading them to conclude that the 20th century did not, in fact, happen.

Just like literary critics! Woo-hoo.

The irony in a harpsichordist being more forward-thinking is pretty amusing. evil grin

What about jazz? A lot of it is a good deal more complex than pop, and there's the mixy stuff like Rhapsody in Blue... actually, now that I think about it I've seen a lot of classical romantic? works that claim to be new and kinda... fail, like Dvorak's ninth or Islamey. But then again what do I know.

What the hell would that even be?! What does "post-" mean anyway?

Jethro, you understood that stuff in the Postmodernism Generator topic. What the hell does that Wikipedia article mean? What does it have to do with music?

@Tzetze, I interpret it as using traditional imagery usually interpreted as conservative, but without any idological intention, just using it for the art.

Neoconservative is something different, though.

Also genres for the genregod:

Shoeviolence
Goregaze
Intellectual Ragga
Shoestep
