I had to take some time away from the game, but like the book on Shutdown PP said, when work, school, or life takes you away from Shibuya, Shutdown had my back. I returned to see the Heal Drink and that slashing pin already mastered.

So, then Day 3 starts, and apparently, a guy by the name of Sanae stepped in and told that Reaper who was harassing us to knock it off! And he seems to know a lot about the inner workings of the Reapers' Game, and has much advice to dispense.

As for the mission, it was essentially a series of Fetch Quests, but along the way, there were a few stores to buy equipment and food from, and I learned about memes and that really powerful attack that I can only use with a 100% Sync Rate, that gets powered up my card matching. The window to see the cards I'm to search for is really short, but it wasn't too hard once I got the hang of it.

One thing I have a question about is related to the Chump Noise. They're apparently this game's version of Random Encounters, but they're still something I have to initiate on my own. Is ignoring them going to leave me underleveled, or can I get enough XP from the mandatory fights to make steady progress without stopping every so often to fight them?

Also, I saw on the descriptions of the Yen pins that "It looks like this pin could evolve!" Do we have ourselves a Magikarp Power here? And if so, is it worth it?

Finally, there was the boss fight. I couldn't deal any damage while the room was dark, but there were times where the screen switched to Shiki up in the rafters and I had to clear the bats away from the lights. I find myself wondering if using the Pyrokinesis pin would've allowed me to damage the boss in the dark.

Finally, after the day ended, the opening cutscenes for the next one feature villains plotting, and a suspiciously easy objective.

The vast majority of yen pins you acquire will be mastered already, and you can't evolve a pin once it's mastered.

Unmastered yen pins can be acquired from various shops.

Pyrokinesis would not have helped with the darkness; only the partner mechanic.

[up][up]Not sure about how much you need to fight red noise to avoid underleveling. It really depends on the difficulty setting and your pins. You'd probably be fine on Easy mode. I tend to level grind a ton in TWEWY because I try to master and collect all the pins, so I usually end up pretty overleveled.

Nah, you're going to need to do some number of random battles, because even on easy you'll get creamed without decent threads later on. And you can't wear decent threads without raising your bravery stat, which you do through food items. And of course digesting those bytes takes fighting random battles. And that's before you get to paying for those threads, which takes money that you get from trashing pins.

It's a very well designed game in that way, just take it slow. Use the random battles as a way of trying new psychs, you're just at the point where enemies can drop interesting new pins.

... so what's the "trick" to beating Pig Jig (the blue one with fake clones) in Solo/Final Remix since the "target it with your partner and see where the reticle appears on the bottom screen" trick is obviously no longer functional? (I just set my difficulty to Easy, which... works, but feels dirty.)

Oh, there's no trick.

And hilariously, difficulty settings don't change anything for the Pig battles. Congratulations, you did it legitimately. [lol]

I completed Day 4 last night, and with it, caught up to the point I got to in the DS version.

This was a chapter rich in exposition and backstory, one where I officially learned about Pig Noise, Chaining Battles, Brand Awareness, and Tin Pin Slammer. After unlocking that minigame, I had a bit of trouble getting used to the Joy-con controls for it, but I managed to win a few games before getting back to the main plot.

So, we now have our first major character death, with the Reapers getting major scumbag points with their villainous gloating. Of course, we couldn't let that stand, but without a partner, Beat wasn't up to the task of avenging Rhyme by himself, so it fell to us. The battle wasn't too hard for me, though.

So, like I said, I'm now caught up to my previous playthrough.

[up][up]I think that may have been true in the DS version (it's been a while and I don't think I ever tested it on purpose) but it's definitely not the case in Final Remix. The difference between Ultimate and Easy is very obvious.

Also, another noob question: I just got my first orichulum pin. What's the best pin to buy with it at this point?

Going waaaaaay back into the past, I'd say fusion upgrades. Though that was the DS version, so I'm not to sure about this version.

I don't recall the level 3 specials calling for Orichalcum? It's Scarletite.

Personally I'd buy whatever of the Japan themed pins you like best. At the point where you get your first Orichalcum, any of them represent a pretty major improvement in power.

The Jupiter Of The Monkey brand? Yeah, that brand is home to some top-notch physical pins, largely in the Shockwave or Vulcan Uppercut psychs.

I'm pretty sure that Muramasa is the only good pin from Jupiter of the Monkey. Slashing pins in general are fairly weak by the end of the game.

These pins. Not the top one, this is actually an image of pins that got changed between the original and international releases (and actually, the top one ended up changed back sometime between DS and Final Remix), but the other four happen to be the pins we're talking about.

Yeah, I'm currently still on Day 6 (I've been grinding to get Neku that leather jacket); off the top of my head I can get the Sushi pin from the record shop or the ninja themed one from the 104.

While I'm asking, which of the Natural Puppy pins evolved from Happy Beam are the best?

I just evolved the Natural Magnum for the black reaper on Day 7, and I was wondering what direction to take it in.

[up][up]I really like slashing pins, effective or not. [lol]

[up]Oh god, the evolution chart for the Natural Puppy Force Rounds and (Jo M Shockwave) pins is crazy making. FM only having two kinds of PP doesn't help much...

Anyway, there are two evolutions to that line that are worthwhile, but my official recommendation is to not worry about it until you have a handle on all your pins. Natural Puppy is a standby, don't worry about optimization until you're ready. Enjoy the moment!

So, given that Final Remix hints really heavily at a sequel, what do you think are the chances of that happening? Does anyone know how well Final Remix has sold?

It's possible a sequel has either been greenlit or kept on the back burner already, and the anniversary re-release (with a Sequel Hook) was to keep the game in the consciousness for when it's revealed.

After all, it's a fairly niche title compared to Squennix's other franchises, but given the criticism aimed at the more recent FF games, it's possible they want to try and make their other franchises less obscure.

Word on the grapevine is that the sequel depends on sales of Final Remix. But let's face it, they would definitely say that whether it was true or not.
